Jokers Wild "Because I’m Free” b/w “Sunshine" Peak Records 4456, 1968

Nice copy of this hard-to-find exemplum from the mid- to late sixties garage/psych sound coming out of Minnesota, recently celebrated in Everybody's Heard about the Bird: The True Story of 1960s Rock 'n' Roll in Minnesota by Rick Shefchik

This record was recorded in January '68 with production assistance from Tony Andreason (The Trashmen) and band members in this protean combo Greg Springer, Lonnie Knight (briefly in The Litter), Denny Johnson and Pete Huber

PROVENANCE: I found this record in the early '90s when I was living in Northwest Indiana, at a garage sale along a country road between Beverly Shores and Michigan City. It was quite a treasure trove, a box of records that included promo copies of records by the likes of H.P. Lovecraft, Moby Grape, The Byrds and local faves from the same era including The Basooties, whose cover of The Mothers of Invention's You Didn't Try to Call Me floored me. It was pretty damn weird. There was a good size box of 45s, many of which I kept for myself, and others I have since traded or sold.

CONDITION: The record holds up very nicely both in its visual presentation and its audio performance. There is minimal surface noise at times but it plays very, very well, especially in showcasing the unique, idiosyncratic psychedelic guitar stylings of Lonnie Knight. Rather than get into debates and quarrels over condition, just drop me a line and I can provide you with mp3s of both sides of the record. Needless to say, I should hope, I wouldn't waste my time or yours trying to sell a patently inferior copy of this cool record. In the meantime, please avail yourself of ebay's "Mouse over to zoom" feature when you review the pictures for this listing to examine the labels and record sheen.
