"ON THE TURNING AWAY" (David Gilmour / Anthony Moore, 1987)
On the turning away,
From the pale and downtrodden,
And the words they say,
Which we won't understand;
"Don't accept that what's happening,
Is just a case of other's suffering,
Or you'll find that you're joining in,
The turning away."
It's a sin that somehow,
Light is changing to shadow,
And casting it's shroud,
Over all we have known,
Unaware how the ranks have grown,
Driven on by a heart of stone,
We could find that we're all alone,
In the dream of the proud.
On the wings of the night,
As the daytime is stirring,
Where the speechless unite,
In a silent accord.
Using words you will find are strange,
And mesmerized as they light the flame,
Feel the new wind of change,
On the wings of the night.
No more turning away,
From the weak and the weary,
No more turning away,
From the coldness inside,
Just a world that we all must share,
It's not enough just to stand and stare,
Is it only a dream that there'll be,
No more turning away.
PINK FLOYD: "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" LP. FIRST UK PRESSING, RELEASED 19th SEPTEMBER 1987.
A VERY RARE FIRST UK FIRST PRESSING DUE TO THE STUNNING AS NEW CONDITION OF THE ITEMS, ALSO
BECAUSE THE GATEFOLD COVER IS STILL IN THE ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAPPING. COMPLETE IN EVERY WAY WITH
THE ORIGINAL UK RECORD SHOP PRICE AND LOGO STICKER STUCK DIRECTLY ONTO THE SHRINK WRAPPING.
THE ORIGINAL 1987 SHRINK WRAPPING ON THE COVER, IS PERFECTLY CLEAR AND UNYELLOWED.
An absolutely stunning first UK pressing indeed, apart from a few 'HMV' shrink wrapped earliest copies, the only other UK shrink
wrapped Limited Edition's with two posters and a ticket application form to attend the tour concerts. That was enforced by one
poster of Pink Floyd performing on stage, being folded over the outside of the cover, this is the first time I have bought and
sold a shrink wrapped first pressing of a non Limited Edition "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason." As I have sold the limited editions
at record record fairs, then when joining ebay I sold two of them, which makes this shrink wrapped first pressing even rarer than
the Limited edition! Now at 29 years of age, this very special unplayed "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" has an unused, unaged
UK lyric inner sleeve, along with an unplayed record that has never left the cover since first being inserted in September,1987.
The shrink wrapping was not sealed but machine crimped at the opening sides, still virtually complete, after those 29 years, the
bottom front seam of the shrink wrapping has partially parted and a few places like the back, have also parted but still on the
the cover proving full protection. Shrink wrapping can and does continue to shrink after being applied and cause distortion and
creases, but this is a perfectly flat because the parted sections acted to relieve the stress. Even the front bottom right corner
with light 'bunching' was how the cover was factory folded and stuck together, as the first issue gatefold covers were not cut
straight, but folded over the right side of the front panel, the extra thickness created an awkward corner to assemble. I say the
same for covers made in 2016! Taking cover pictures with shrink wrapping is much more difficult for details, but it can be seen
as best as possible in the pictures anyway, the distinctive 1980's yellow, white and black, round 'HMV' price sticker has;
HMV Price
£5 - 99
There you have the 1987 price for a UK chart LP, today, an historical original record shop logo / price sticker is 'priceless,'
had the shrink wrapping been removed on purchase in September, 1987, the sticker would have been thrown away with it as it was
stuck directly onto the shrink wrapping. In August, 2016, I can offer this unplayed Mint first pressing record, Mint first issue card,
"Momentary Lapse Of Reason" colour lyric inner sleeve, an 'as new' shrink wrapped first issue cover & 'HMV' sticker, exactly
how it bought in the original UK record shop. Incidentally, the shrink wrap itself was protected because it was stored inside
a plastic outer sleeve from day one!
TEXTURED EMI LABEL: EMD 1003
MAITRIX: EMD 1003 A - 3U - 1 - 3 - * / EMD 1003 B - 2U - 1 - 2 -*
* Both sides end with '1', but stamped sideways, not a dash but an error, there was always a third digit after the letter 'U' and
I am certain this was intended: 'EMD 1003 A - 3U - 1 - 3 - 1 / EMDS 1003 B - 2U - 1 - 2 - 1'. I have seen this before many
times on several post 1983 EMI related albums and singles, I have typed it as ending as a dash as that is a personal opinion.
The above is machine stamped with EMI's usual pressing plant embossed or raised letters and digits, placing this as one of the
first pressings. I detest how virtually every UK Pink Floyd album has become subject of counterfeit's, including colour vinyl that
was never officially made in the UK, not yet for "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" but genuine Mint copies are rare now, it's only a
matter of time. The only way to counter the crooks who make and sell them, is to keep providing EMI's meticulous indexing in
pictures and text as no counterfeiter in the world can reproduce that, my details are as accurate as EMI's!
Also hand scribed by the sound engineer who first mastered the UK first pressings, a compiled picure includes the main maitrix
and the other exclusive mastering items ;
SIDE 1: EMD 1003 - A3
SIDE 2: EMD 1003 - B2
THE MASTERING 'Precision' & 'DMM' LOGO'S ARE SCRIBED IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES OF BOTH SIDES.
FIRST ISSUE CARD LYRIC SIDE OPENING INNER SLEEVE, PRINTED ON BOTH SIDES, UNUSED AND UNSPLIT WITH
HARDLY EVEN THE VERY GENTLEST POSSIBLE RECORD IMPRESSION, IN SUPERB MINT CONDITION.
THE SHRINK WRAPPING ALSO MEANS THE GATEFOLD COVER HAS NEVER BEEN OPENED IN 29 YEARS, AMAZING!
THE SHRINK WRAPPING HAS PARTED IN A FEW PLACES BUT IS COMPLETE, A FEW SNAGS HERE AND THERE FROM
STORAGE, MY PICTURES SHOW IN DETAIL HOW WELL PROTECTED THE COVER STILL IS. PROTECTING A REALLY
TOP QUALITY FIRST ISSUE GATEFOLD COVER, CONSTRUCTED FROM HEAVY DUTY CARDBOARD AND THE TOP
SURFACE HAS A TEXTURED/ BOBBLY FINISH. THE FOREIGN IMPORT COVERS THAT FOLLOWED THESE UK VERY
VERY FIRST MADE COVERS HAD A SMOOTH, SHEEN FINISH. THREE OTHER DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF
THESE VERY FIRST MADE UK PRINTED COVERS, ARE ALSO EXCLUSIVE;
a.) AN EXCEPTIONALLY WIDE SPINE WITH TWO OUTSIDE RIDGES.
b.) THE FAR RIGHT EDGE OF THE FRONT WAS NOT FINISHED IN LINE WITH THE INSIDE, THE ARTWORK CONTINUED
OVER THE EDGE AND STUCK UNDERNEATH THE INSIDE FAR LEFT PANEL'S EDGE.
c.) THE INSIDE OF THE COVER, AS SEEN IN THE BACK STORAGE COMPARTMENT, IS WHITE AND NOT NATURAL
CARDBOARD COLOUR.
As detailed n above, the record has EMI's exclusive, embossed machine stamping, as well as maitrix configuration,in 1987
they were still using 'U' to index them, that began in 1970! The gatefold cover does have the same positive indemnification of
where it was made, in tiny just readable print on the outside's back bottom right rim, just after EMI's UK address;
"Sleeve Printed In England. Manufactured In England: RB8709HP"
Encoded there is the printing date of the cover, the labels and the lyrics inner sleeve; '8709' = September,1987.
STILL INSIDE AND AROUND THE RIMS OF THE SPINDLE HOLE, THAT ALONE CONFIRMS AN UNPLAYED RECORD.
HERE I GO AGAIN, 1967 OR 1987, RECORDS LEFT THE PRESSING PLANTS WITH ULTRA FAINT HANDLING TRACES
OR THE IMPRINT OF THE METAL STAMPING DISCS AS THEY LEFT THE MOLTEN VINYL. FACTORY SEALED RECORDS
PROVE THAT WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, VINYL HAS DEEP GROOVES FOR THE
METAL DISCS TO STAMP SO FAR INTO RECORDS. THEY ARE NOTHING LIKE CD'S, BUT EVEN THEY HAVE THE SAME
FEATHER LIGHT TO NEAR INVISIBLE TRACES, I PREFER TO MENTION THAT WHEN I CANNOT FIND ANY HANDLING
TRACES, BUT I KNOW IT WAS HANDLED!
I AM NOT IN THE HABIT OF LOOKING FOR EXCUSES, YOU CAN SEE HOW THIS RECORD HAS NEVER BEEN ON A
SPINDLE BY LOOKING AT MY PICTURE OF SIDE 2's LABEL, SUBSTANTIAL FLAKES OF VINYL ARE STILL AROUND
AND IN THE CENTRE HOLE AND SO DELICATE, NO WAY COULD THEY REMAIN IN PLACE IF CONTACT WAS MADE
WITH A SPINDLE. THE RECORD IS POSITIVELY IN UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION.

I am still 'dipping into into a superb collection of unplayed records I bought fairly recently, I tend to hang onto them for as
long as possible, collecting records began back in 1963 for me, I love nothing more than offering them in the ultimate condition.
However far back you go with Pink Floyd's records, they might have covered four decades, 1967 - 1994, but they all one thing in
common, trying to find a Mint / Mint- UK first pressing of any of the titles, will prove to be just as difficult. Leaving Limited
Editions aside, the huge time frame between publishing dates is irrelevant, their 1967 debut LP,"A Piper At The Gates Of Dawn"
is as equally elusive as their final album,"The Division Bell", all the albums that came between them follow the same pattern.
I must comment about how disgusted I am to see counterfeit "Division Bell" albums being openly sold on ebay, unless they have
a similar EMI machine stamped maitrix to the above picture, the sickening sight of a fake turquoise lettering debut Led Zeppelin
album.... with photo copied maroon and red Atlantic labels should never happen. Don't buy them and they will stop making them!
The same is true for the Beatles albums, simply because truly great music was normally heavily played indefinitely, leaving the
vinyl, the covers and any associated printed items in a terrible state. I am not just discussing 2016, because when trading at
record fairs I maintained a full box of every album Pink Floyd made, as my headings reminded me, including when this very album
was first released. As a collector myself since 1967, my standards are still the same as when I first started selling Pink Floyd
records, every passing year reveals how few Mint / Mint- first pressing exist or surface for sale. Including "The Division Bell",
even if proportionally there was far less vinyl made in 1994, 'Mint' is still just as rare a commodity for the vinyl and even the
original 1994 CD's and cassettes! "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" as a genuine UK first pressing is always overplayed and in
a tatty, battered cover with a split, creased and torn inner sleeve, how sellers get away with 'Ex' or 'Near Ex' is a mystery to
me, when such heavy wear is clearly 'Good' or 'Fair.' I constantly look for only top condition original Pink Floyd albums and my
conclusion is, from "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" to "The Division Bell" they have indeed become increasingly difficult to locate.
That can only mean an increase in the demand for original vinyl, I cannot comment on how that affects non UK pressings but it's
certainly true for the British EMI originals. Not just mean for the titles on the EMI label like "Momentary Lapse" came on, the
Columbia and Harvest first pressings. Near Mint or a really healthy correctly graded 'Excellent+++' copy does just fine, but
unplayed? That's a tall order from any decade and the 1980's are now rapidly receding, so I am rather proud to be offering an
ultimate condition, first pressed record, first printed lyrics inner sleeve & shrink wrapped gatefold cover. All identification
points are above, I face the same dilemna each time I buy unplayed Mint records, whether to play them for a full description,
or offer them unplayed so the next owner will be the first to play it. More to the point, perhaps taking the same view as this
record's original one owner, by adopting a long term perspective and maintaining the extremely rare virgin vinyl status.
My reverence for Pink Floyd wins out, there is not one single trace of spindle use on either label and the record has no playing
signs, positively an unplayed record, kept and stored since September,1987. With the centre hole's delicate shavings of vinyl
I cannot risk dislodging them so I am not going to play it, if anything I am just as thrilled to offer such fantastic condition as
enjoy hearing the records I sell. I have always loved presenting records in 'day of issue' whenever physically possible, in our
days at record fairs when customers could inspect the vinyl and covers, visual grading was confirmed by them, not by someone
with a vested interested in achieving the highest price in an auction. I still grade records and covers as if they were going to
be placed in front of prospective customers to inspect in person, even then, that was backed up when they took a record home
by the same refund policy as I have in place on ebay. Every record sold was accompanied by a printed slip with our registered
trading name, our address and phone number, with a written guarantee for authenticity and originality, it was not enforced by
record fair organisers or legally in place for mostly second hand goods, morally it was the only self imposed ethics to abide by.
Back to the unplayed vinyl, EMI first pressings were so immaculate, I have every confidence the sound quality will be perfect
and if I did play this record,it would be indulgence on my behalf. I would be urging patience, often records give 'instant audio
perfection,' but the pressing process also creates surface sound and static, that will play through after several plays and the
sound becomes not only cleaner, but 'warmer.' I was aware of that in the 60's and being an avid lover of recording records onto
tapes then, I soon learnt to play them many times when first bought and then record them without the static. If not, you were
listening to background sounds that disappeared in time and that was because microscopic vinyl 'pips' are left in the grooves,
especially the outside or Side run-in grooves, a stylus will clear them and that is the only cleaning method I believe in, no any
form of cleaning fluids that always contain chemicals and alcohol that cause long term damage, I just play them! I am of
course aware "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" will be very well known among Pink Floyd fans of all ages, I cannot really give
any insight or background to the album that is not known, the first album without Roger Waters and a major one for that very
reason. With or without Roger and Syd, the spirit of Pink Floyd was always there on every album and single, you can hear that
on all the solo albums as well.

R & M RECORDS.
My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade
in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl
into becoming a professional record seller. Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere
of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for
vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be,
the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly
and very efficient service we are proud to provide;
EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A 'NO ARGUMENT' MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY
FROM THE U.K. "RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE" BOOK.
THERE IT CLEARLY STATES "Sound Quality" AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE
AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS. i.e. COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL
INSPECTION WITH VERY CLOSELY LISTENING TO EVERY SECOND, UNLESS PERHAPS IN THE CASE
OF GENUINELY UNPLAYED VINYL. EVEN THEN WE STILL TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR A RECORD
WHEN A CUSTOMER RECEIVES EITHER A SEALED OR AN UNPLAYED RECORD.
We take 100% responsibility after an item has been posted and offer our fullest support in the event of any problems.

WEIGH A LITTLE EXTRA.
UNDER PAYPAL & EBAY'S GUIDELINES, ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA A FULLY INSURED TRACKABLE
SERVICE.
We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we
will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged. Ebay were aware of that happening and have
increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become
our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46. A temporary reduction this week means we can
now post LP's for £5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to £7?
For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant
in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.
IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF £46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER £46 WILL BE
SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
