THE BEATLES: "The Beatles Hits" UK EP IN MONO, FIRST PRESSING, ISSUED 19th SEPTEMBER,1963.
An unplayed 54 year old, first pressing of "The Beatles Hits" is off the scale for the rarity, a record still with the stunning
sound quality it left EMI's pressing plant with all those years ago. I will respect the rarity and not play it myself.

YELLOW & BLACK PARLOPHONE TEXTURED LABEL: GEP 8880.
'Textured' really comes into the equation here, the label on Side 2 does not have any spindle alignment traces, or any form of
handling traces.  Side 1's label centre only has ultra fine handling traces, I am fully qualified to know the difference between
a spindle contact marks and fingertip handling.  54 years genuine experience with records and over 30 years as a professional
vinyl seller, is that is not enough, I was buying Beatles records in the same 1963 this EP was first pressed and issued.... I still
play records on a 1960's Mono record player.   Please see my pictures for the astonishing sight of an unplayed "The Beatles Hits"
and for all my experience, I am still amazed by the ultimate, unplayed, true Mint condition.

  MAITRIX: 7TCE 760 - 2N / 7TCE 761 - 1N

EMI STAMPING CODES:  MG  1  /   GDG 1  (1 4 ) *
The above shows this is the very first pressing, the only other comment concerns the usual indexing irregularities;
*After a '1' digit, two second mistaken '1' & '4' digits were stamped, as I continuously and consistently state, EMI never made
mothers in double figures, 114 mothers are out of the question!  I always take the first digit as the one one intended because
EMI sound engineers only crossed out errors when the first digit was involved.  Once again, that can be verified because the
reverse side has a '1' digit signifying a first mother, a very first pressing beyond question.

  THE TEXTURED LABEL DETAILS:
"PARLOPHONE CO. LTD." ON THE RIMS (As typed, in capital letters is correct for "The Beatles Hits")

PUBLISHING YEAR FORMAT; "Recording First Published 1963"

THE UK TAX CODE 'KT' IS EMBOSSED ON SIDE 1's PUSH-OUT CENTRE.
As a first pressing, at 12 o'clock in the run-put grooves the earlier Tax Code was mistakenly stamped as 'KMT', not particularly
rare, but definitely exclusive only to the earliest records pressed.

IT WAS TOO EARLY FOR "Sold In UK" By THREE MONTHS, THAT WAS FIRST INTRODUCED IN 1964.

Record Collector Price Guide have been re-printing the same mistake by stating these genuine first pressings did not have
'Recording First Published 1963' on the labels.  Like all the pre-1965, EMI related record labels on singles EP's, LP's and also
often on the covers, including every Beatles record......except for printing errors, they will all have the same thing in common.
The year of publication is in this format,'Recording First Published 1963', that continued into 1964 for the next and final year.
"The Beatles Hits" was positively included, there were a few copies mistakenly issued with misprinted labels, in all the frenzy
of 1963 errors were made by  printers, but you cannot announce the huge amount made at exactly the same time as the few with
incorrectly printed labels, were the ones in a minority.  The mistake is all part of collecting Beatles records but it belongs in
the Price Guide under the 'Misprinting & Mispressing' section, not exclusively as 'first pressings.' Condemning all the genuine
first pressings like this as a 'second pressing' is plain daft and downright misleading.  Not that the Price Guide acknowledge or
appear to understand the significance of the stamping codes, if they did then they should recognise this record is indeed a very
First Pressing!  How could it not be with '1' mothers stamped on both sides of the record?  When I sold one of the rarer copies
with the 'Recording First Published 1963' text omitted, I wrote one of the most extensive descriptions about that and I have given
the basics above, my experience and knowledge was not learnt from anyone else.  I was there buying this EP in 1963 and could not
even begin counting how many variations of "The Beatles Hits" I have personally seen since 1963, the only text book I use gives
  precise chart positions.

VERY FIRST ISSUE 1963, 'BuPr' (Buckland Press) PRINTED LAMINATED COVER, THE FLIPBACK EDGES HAVE
THE SPINE SIDE'S ENDS FINISHED AT 45 DEGREES OR MITERED.  A BARELY USED REALLY BEAUTIFUL COVER,
THE RIGHT SIDE CORNERS ARE UNWORN AND PERFECTLY AT 90 DEGREES, SO IS THE BOTTOM LEFT SIDE CORNER,
THE TOP LEFT (OR SPINE TIP)  HAS VERY LIGHT RUBBING.  THE EDGES,  OPENING SIDES AND THE SPINE ARE
  ALSO UNWORN.
EVEN THE RECORD IMPRESSION IS EXCEPTIONALLY LIGHT WITH JUST SOME NATURALLY FORMED FAINT RIPPLES.
THE THIN CARD OF EP COVERS TEND TO MOULD AROUND THE RECORD, CAUSING SEVERE CREASES AND SPLIT
THE FRONT LAMINATION.  NOT HERE, JUST ABSOLUTE CURVATURE WHICH IS NEAR FLAT, BUT HOW COULD IT BE
COMPLETELY FLAT AFTER 53 YEARS?  NOT THE USUAL HEAVILY CREASED CORNERS AND  AGEING IS NOT AN ISSUE,
PLEASE SEE MY PICTURES FOR HOW NEAR PERFECTLY PURE WHITE EVEN THE MATT BACK PANEL IS.
Like all EP covers, they were made from very thin cardboard in comparison to LP covers but the EP's vinyl was still 60's standard
heavyweight and thick edged, so there had to be some kind of impact on the covers.  Unused and unplayed is amazing and ever
since 1963, perfectly stored inside a flip lid singles box, that was minamised. A more than reasonable record impression, which
amounts to next to nothing for the actual absolutely stunning condition of this 54 year old first edition cover!  The front is still the
original pure white colour and with the lamination as glossy as they day it was applied in 1963, there is a positive appearance
and feel of being brand new. After all, such reasonably minor impression related items were forming right from the first instance
of the record being inserted into the cover and being tightly boxed for distribution to record shops.... before they were bought.
I am not in the habit of making excuses for such incredible condition items from 2017 or 1963, just being honest and realistic
about such fantastic condition.  Ebay is full of very worn and damaged average condition Beatles EP covers,  I am delighted to
offer this outstanding record and cover, the above pictures speak for themselves;
THE COVER IS IN REALLY BEAUTIFUL UNUSED  AND UNAGED, NEAR MINT CONDITION.

THE IMMACULATE LABELS HAVE BEEN DESCRIBED AND I INCLUDED A CLOSE UP PICTURE OF SIDE 2 's LABEL.
THERE ARE NO SCRATCHES OR MARKS, ANY FEATHER LIGHT HANDLING TRACES ARE NEAR INVISIBLE TO INVISIBLE,
I WILL STRESS 'INVISIBLE'. A STUNNING LOOKING "The Beatles Hits", IN UNPLAYED MINT CONDITION.
  SIDE 1
"From Me To You"
"Thank You Girl"

SIDE 2
"Please Please Me"
"Love Me Do"
I will never become immune from the astonishing sight and fantastic sound of the Beatles first pressings that have miraculously
virgin grooves, is very special indeed, my pictures were taken in today's surprising bright sunshine, the mentioned close up label
picture show how like brand new this actually is,  I just stated near invisible handling in my headings, more like a reflex action
because records in this astonishing condition should never become subject to disclaiming statements.  Records were handled at
record plants, record shops and even if played once, were are up to at least the third person involved, shining bright lights onto
such fantastic condition is absurd for 1963 labels, without the usual multitude of spindle marks and worn away top surface paper
paper around the centre holes.  I accept that's a necessary part of supplying an honest and accurate description and never avoid
such obvious statements, but as these top condition Beatles EP's are alarmingly becoming harder to locate, a few words on the
subject are needed to place the correct perspective onto how precious they are.  Selling in vast numbers cannot alter the fact it
was over half a century ago, where I prefer to centre this description,in the very exciting period when the Beatles not only took
Britain by storm, but now stood on the threshold of 'conquering' the world. In September,1963 though, America still was no more
a dream and the above four song titles were virtually unheard in the USA, all was about to change in matter of only six months.

Massive demands for all the 1963 UK Beatles records was a reflection on their initial first year of success, a sensational impact
nationwide sparked off an unparalleled activity in vinyl production and all related printed items.  UK singles were issued in the
record company sleeve common to all the artists signed with them, only small silver printing under the song titles contained the
name of the artists.  EP's (Extended Plays) were more like a smaller version of an album, with four tracks plus the photographic
quality pictures under glossy lamination on the front covers, they suddenly became more desirable than ever before.  EMI had
many subsidiary labels and with the Beatles arrival in 1963, other artists' records still had to be manufactured, they struggled
to cope with it all, they were fortunate the 78 RPM's had only recently been discontinued.  Even so, they were still pressing on
three fronts and the scale and extent of Beatles EP's, singles and albums has created a false impression they will all be around
indefinitely.  This beautiful condition 1963 first pressing is a reminder of how even the Beatles EP's from a period when massive
sales of that format had yet to slow down to a trickle and soon become abandoned.  1966 was the final year because the lavish
packaging of "Magical Mystery Tour" with a book is still unique today and cannot be considered to be a continuation of all that
preceded it, one record in a single cover.  In late 1968 - early 1969 there was nearly a revival of EP's when the four exclusive
Beatles tracks as issued on the "Yellow Submarine" soundtrack album, were considered for releasing on an EP but the idea was
abandoned. Just imagine the collectability of a "Yellow Submarine" EP with the artwork on the front had that happened, but not
even the pulling power of the Beatles could change the buying habits of their fans.   The "Yellow Submarine" LP in 1969 became
their worst selling 1960's album, so perhaps a "Yellow Submarine" EP might have proved successful, I would have been the first
into a record shop to buy one!  Returning to the subject I just touched on, the drain on British 60's original Beatles vinyl, ebay
is not solely responsible for the rapidly dwindling numbers in top condition now being made available to buy. We were a part of
the unbelievable volume of Beatles records sold at UK record fairs that left Britain from the 80's until basically the end of the
90's.  That still continues if on a smaller scale compared to the two previous decades,at least the gatherings of vinyl die-hard's
in a digital CD era were restricted to only weekends and the biggest events that ran over the Saturday & Sunday, were thinly
spread over the year.  Ebay introduced an almost 24 hours a day, seven days a week availability, since last year I have noticed
a huge reduction in original Beatles EP's being offered in anything approaching decent condition. We are a tiny island and hardly
America, there is not a never ending supply of 1960's originals and few genuine 1960's EP's are being offered now, we were at
the record fair at London's Victoria recently, I could not find any UK Beatles records to buy in in the one and only condition
I am interested in.  Just like the majority of EP's on ebay, they were either battered worn out originals, often with the covers
lost, or re-issues that are mostly being sold from a 1980's EP box set as individual items, without declaring they are re-issues.
EP's did not run the course of the Beatles being together as a band, only during their first two to three years, the peaking period
for all artists UK EP's was in 1963 and 1964 and once into 1965/1966, EP's began to drop from popularity even for the Beatles
latest title, by 1966 it was all over.

"The Beatles Hits" was first issued the 19th September, 1963, the year all the Beatles record sales went into a totally different
league of demand from record buyers.  That in itself may have signalled the start of the demise of the EP format in the UK, where
singles had dominated popular music, Beatles fans were now finding it compulsive to have their latest album as well as the 45's.
The Rolling Stones sold one or two records in the 60's but their final EP was issued in August,1965, if anything EMI / Parlophone
kept trying in 1966, way past the point when record buyers were still no longer keen to buy them, albums had now overtaken the
desirability once dominated by 45 RPM  EP's.   The once regularly consulted EP Charts was discontinued in 1966 and the singles
and albums charts were all that mattered.

The textured labels are in pristine condition, the ultra bright silver printing and deep yellow of 'Parlophone' look like they just
left the printer in 1963, so do the the labels.  As a consequence, the vinyl is in really outstanding condition, still with that
'just pressed' glossy appearance of a Mint record, I could hardly see microscopic wisps of near invisible, ultra light, handling
traces, I have said enough, this September, "The Beatles Hits" EP reached an astonishing 54th Anniversary and I do feel very old
to remember the actual release.   I am always astonished to find the record and cover that made it through all those decades in
such fantastic condition.  I am also hunting for the very best I can physically produce and this is a real beauty for the record and
cover, still the original 1963 creamy white colour, without any discolouration or staining at all.
The matt back panel is the original pure white, as I commented earlier, storage has been lovingly made, perfectly clean with
only the record impression related traits. Heavyweight vinyl simply has to leave an unavoidable impression from the record,
but as I said, absolutely minimal natural curvature

A record with precisely the stunning sound quality it left EMI's pressing plant with all those years ago, all the staggering mono
power mastered into all 1960's EMI pressed Beatles UK EP's.   Be wary about the repro's / re-issues because the early 1960's had
unique sound, that included that tremendous power, the decade's 45's had that embedded into the deep grooves and no way can
anything except an original generate that.  For all the high volume level, every track is in stunning crystal clear audio, I sound
grade all my records with my own amp's set to give unnecessary volume, as well as being how I enjoy music, it also reveals how
there'is no distortion from the loudest notes.  Essential for this EP, all four tracks feature John Lennon playing blues harmonica.

R & M RECORDS.

My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade
in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl
into becoming a professional record seller.  Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere
of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for
vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be,
the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly
and very efficient service we are proud to provide;

EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A 'NO ARGUMENT' MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY
FROM THE U.K. "RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE" BOOK.
THERE IT CLEARLY STATES "Sound Quality" AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE
AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS. i.e. COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL
INSPECTION WITH VERY CLOSELY LISTENING TO EVERY SECOND, UNLESS PERHAPS IN THE CASE
OF GENUINELY UNPLAYED VINYL.  EVEN THEN WE STILL TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR A RECORD
WHEN A CUSTOMER RECEIVES EITHER A SEALED OR AN UNPLAYED RECORD.

We take 100% responsibility after an item has been posted and offer our fullest support in the event of any problems.

UNDER PAYPAL & EBAY'S GUIDELINES, ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA A FULLY INSURED TRACKABLE

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we
will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged.  Ebay were aware of that happening and have
increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become
our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46.  A temporary reduction this week means we can
now post LP's for £5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to £7?

For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant
in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.

IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF £46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER £46 WILL BE
SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA 'INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR.'
