Recorded over two days in early January of 2017, "Detour Ahead: The Music of Billie Holiday" is just that homage; John's tribute to the great Lady Day. Arranged, produced and mixed by Asbury Jukes saxophonist John Isley, the album is a 10 song offering of all original arrangements and interpretations of some of Billie's most classic songs as well as a few hidden gems. While embracing the jazz origins of these songs, the music is also distinctly contemporary, showcasing at length John's strengths: his sense of drama and humor, his heartfelt delivery while telling beautiful stories, and his deeply soulful harmonica playing. The extent of John's connection to this music is readily evident in his poignant lyrical delivery. "Detour Ahead: The Music of Billie Holiday" is John's labor of love, paying sincere tribute to Billie's far reaching legacy.
