Rolling Stones: PAST AND PRESENT

Rolling Stones PAST AND PRESENT is a Clearing Station set released only to certain radio stations in 1982 by the Mutual Broadcasting System. This set includes the original programming notes and playlist (24 pages) and the original letter from MBS’ Director of Music Programming to each of the box’s radio-programming recipients. The record labels all read “Mutual Broadcasting System, Inc.,” and each LP is in its original plain paper sleeve. All sleeves are in perfect condition.

The records contain 12 hours of audio documentary about The Rolling Stones, including interviews and music from 1962 to 1982. The album contains interviews with Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood, and Mick Taylor as well as the band’s friends and colleagues such as Alexis Korner, Dick Taylor, George Martin, Marianne Faithfull, Pete Townshend, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lennon and George Harrison.

It also features dozens of songs, from “Road Runner”and “Come On” in the early 1960s to “Start Me Up” and “Emotional Rescue.” Songs from all key periods in the band’s career are featured, including some live tracks and oddities like Mick Jagger’s solo single from the 1970 film he starred in, PERFORMANCE, “Memo From Turner.” The set is a stunning record of the first 20 years of the band’s career, covering most of their greatest moments and told in their own voices as well as those who know them best.

The 12 hour-long vinyl records were manufactured on heavier-than-usual LPs as they were intended for commercial use, ensuring a richer, cleaner playback experience.

This auction is for the original issue 33 RPM 12" twelve-disc vinyl record album set from The Mutual Broadcasting System. This is an EXTREMELY RARE and long out-of print record set, and was broadcast from September 30, 1982 through October 3, 1982. Never released to the public, the boxed set contains 12 hours of programming with several commercials. The vinyl discs are in absolutely mint condition, having likely never been played (really). The outer box’s cover is in VG-minus condition. (The box’s spines are completely intact although there is some apparent water damage to the box’s front bottom cover ONLY — please see photos.) The inner box and all its contents are in perfect (mint) condition. The set comes with a cover letter and all 12 pages of programming, all in mint condition.
