Artist: Beethoven / Bruno Walter
Title: Symphony No.3 in E Flat Major, Op. 55 (Eroica)
Label: Classic Records / Columbia
LP Condition: Sealed
Jacket Condition: Sealed
200 Gram Audiophile Pressing
Mastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering
Tip On Jacket
Very strong interpretation of Beethoven's "Eroica" Symphony by Bruno Walter conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra in Hollywood. Transferred from the original three track session master tapes directly to master lacquer on Classic's "ALL TUBE" stereo cutting system by Bernie Grundman and Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. This 200g Quiex Super Vinyl Profile* pressing does sound much better than the 1st issue 180g Classic version. According to Michael Hobson, founder of Classic Records and a champion of this title, " Maestro Walter was in a very romantic stage late in his career when he relocated to Southern California and embarked upon a series of recordings at the American Legion Hall in Hollywood, this one in January 1958 under the production of John McClure from Columbia Records. McClure would come out to Hollywood every year in January and February and record Bruno Walter conducting the Music most important to him which started with the Beethoven cycle of which this recording was one of the first in the series. Original Columbia pressing are hyped in the midrange and very tinny sounding but cut from the original session master reveals not only the greatness of the performance but also the beautiful sound of the American Legion Hall used for the recording. This is one not to be missed!
