I could write for days on the impact that Ogden's has had on me and my generation and how it influenced so many musicians all over the world and the most underrated song writing team of Marriott/ Lane should be up there with Lennon and McCartney and Jagger/ Richard.
There's songs on this album that rock like Song Of A Baker and Afterglow Of Your Love, there's Kinkish cockney camp in songs like Rene and Lazy Sunday Afternoon, the psychedelic haze of the title track and the wonderful side 2 with narration by Mr. Gobbledegook himself Stanley Unwin.
I had a most unique and informative conversation with Stanley years ago, we talked about his time during WWII and him coming across George Patton…Stanley was a most interesting man and lived a most interesting life. And was from a generation of which we will never see the likes of again.
I guess the same will be said about my generation one day. That lived through the 60’s in a different way…Not so much about what we did or done, more about what we witnessed...It was an amazing time to say the least...It was a renaissance musically speaking, that I don’t believe will ever be equaled.
Getting back to this album….If I were to pick my top 10 favorite records of all time….There would be Sgt.Pepper and Electric Ladyland and Love’s Forever Changes as well as Something Else by The Kinks and The Who’s Sell Out, Dylan's Blonde On Blonde. the Yardbirds Having A Rave Up and I have to add Love’s first album and Revolver and in that top 10 is Ogden's…At times it's been in my top 5….It’s a masterpiece and a must have!
The record grades a solid EX+....It looks like it was just pressed, the mirror like vinyl shines. No marks or scratches…Only very slight removal light wispy very trivial marks and nothing deep. This record sounds INCREDIBLE!!!!
This fold out circular sleeve grades a modest EX+ A very hard sleeve to find intact to begin with, this sleeve is not just intact…It's solid and tight. No tears creasing or splits.I would grade it higher, but it is still over 49 years old it does have the number 187 faintly written on one of the panels but it’s hardly noticeable and it doesn’t affect the integrity of this fantastic cover.
I know the price is high on this album….If you don’t have this record get it in any form that you  can get it in….This record is a must have!
I've been collecting records for over 55 years now and this album is from my personal collection.
