FOR SALE IS A MEGA RARE HOLY GRAIL SECOND ISSUE 1970 VINYL LP RECORD OF ASHA BY JAZZ LEGENDS THE LLOYD MCNEILL QUARTET. THE RECORD IS A SURBURB NEAR MINT. THE COVER IS VG+++/N MINT- RANGE WITH A CUT PROMO CORNER AND A TINY BIT OF LIGHT SOILING ON THE BACK. A GEM OF A COPY.
A really special album of deep spiritual jazz released in very limited quantity in 1969 on Lloyd McNeill and Robert Bialek’s DC based label, Asha Records. The nearly immediate demand for a second run of this album was released with the cover art above and reissue referenced on the back cover. I believe you can authenticate the originality of this LP by the address printed on the rear cover, 1340 Connecticut Ave, N.W., Washington, DC. Note the recording engineer, Ed Green(e) (Edgewood Studios) produced several of the all time best selling jazz albums ("Jazz Samba", "The In Crowd") and had a legendary career with Sinatra ultimately producing huge TV music specials. This album has been re-issued on vinyl and CD by a Japanese label, which constitute most copies sold on eBay. Mr McNeill is an African-American flautist, painter, poet and photographer born in DC in 1935. His multi-disciplinary creative life led to encounters and friendships with Nina Simone, Picasso, Eric Dolphy, Nana Vasconceles and other legendary cultural figures. Mr. McNeill grew up through the era of the Civi Rights Movement in the 1960s and his life and work is a reflection of those ideals.
