Vinyl albums by the Doors in MONO are certainly collectible items, especially one of the Monarch first pressings, which this one is. This is the label variant with "MONO" clearly visible above the catalog number on both sides. Another first pressing feature is "(Weill-Brecht) Witmark (ASCAP)" publishing credit on Side One label for Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar). Now the odd thing is, the album cover reads that it's stereo (EKS 74007), and maybe it was purchased that way, and maybe the original cover was lost, destroyed, whatever and somebody subbed a stereo cover. (Not me; I bought it this way, used.)

Now Monarch first pressings are highly valued and expensive when in great condition, which this copy is not. Side 1 looks very good and plays nice with some crackle and a tick here or there. Side 2 is another matter. It has more marks on it, and in the quiet songs- "End of the Night," and parts of "The End," there is a good amount of surface noise as well as clicks and pops. The record played completely without skips or repeats though, but after hearing it, the best I can rate the vinyl is GOOD. Obviously the cover grade is a VG. Also contains the original Elektra inner-sleeve. Original MONO copies of this album are scarce, just do not be expecting a great record. If it was, I'd be asking a lot more.
