Hoodoo Man Blues ist nicht nur der erste Auftritt auf LP von Junior Wells, sondern sehr wahrscheinlich die erste LP einer Chicagoer Blues Band überhaupt. Dieses Album hat in den späten 60ern den Trend zur Gründung von Blues-Labels ausgelöst. Chess und einige andere Labels hatten 45er von Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc. wieder veröffentlicht, aber so gut wie niemand versuchte, den Chicago-Blues-Sound, frei von den Limitierungen der Jukebox/Radio-Werbung der 45er, einzufangen. Dieses Album präsentiert die rauchige Gitarre des legendären Buddy Guy, zusammen mit seiner famosen Rhythmussektion.
