What an album! First album I purchased for my first stereo. The-Cars-Vinyl-Record-Album-LP-First-Album-Self-Titled-1978-Elektra-6E-135.
The Cars 1978 self-titled debut is one of the finest pieces of power-pop and new-wave music that I can think of. With the exception of the last track, all the songs are timeless — I could see “Just What I Needed” being released today without any hesitation.
As new wave and punk achieved full flight in 1978, the first Cars album would provide a bold, innovative approach to American guitar pop that helped their country provide stiff competition for their UK counterparts.
Best guess is that the condition of this record is at least very good+, but possibly excellent. It's very difficult to say as it has been safely stored with other albums for several years, but I no longer have a turntable on which to test its playability performance. From my personal collection. Tried to use care when playing. Visually looks like it has had little use, though there are a few visual scratches. Please view all photos for better idea of quality, condition, and appearance. ( Photo #2 shows wear ring on rear jacket cover near top and a scratch or two left side .)
Vinyl Record Disclaimer
Record Grade: Very Good+ - Excellent. Jacket Grade: Very Good+ - Excellent. There is a paper sleeve within the jacket, which has a about a 4" split at bottom and 3" split on one side at top. However, there are no stains or spots on sleeve. Please see the grading scale below.
This is a vintage item and I have described it to the best of my abilities. My records have not been rated based on sound, but only on visual qualities. It's very difficult to say it has been safely stored with other albums for several years, but I no longer have a turntable on which to test its playability performance. Please ask questions or express concerns before placing a bid or buying the item.
Vinyl Record Grading Scale [VISUAL]
~M (Mint) - Visually the vinyl and labels look new. There are no signs of wear.
~NM (Near Mint) - Visually the record looks new, but may show one or two very slight abnormalities. Labels are in excellent condition.
~Exc (Excellent or Very Good++) - A very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a couple of light surface scratches. Labels are in excellent condition.
~VG+ (Very Good+) - A nice record, but a used record that has a series of light scuffs or scratches, may show light groove graying....still glossy with a lot of life left in it. Labels may show light wear.
~VG (Very Good) - An acceptable, well-played record (many scratches, may show graying/groove wear from play, and the vinyl has dulled a bit). Labels may show light wear.
~G/P (Good/Poor) - Not good at all. The vinyl is very dull, has many surface scratches, may show graying/groove wear from play. May have chips at the edges. Labels show wear.
