SONATA ON JAZZ ELEMENTS is the first in a series of many experimental jazz-oriented compositions by Mr. Kupferman….

LITTLE SONATA, a light-hearted, early work, offers the listener more than a few clues to the composer's later style: His fresh, inventive feeling for piano textures, the occasional touches of jazz rhythms, the loose framework of traditional forms as a point of departure and his free-wheeling, devil- may-care attitude towards atonal harmony, are, for example, some of the seeds of Kupferman's SONATA ON JAZZ (composed ten years later). The first movement is a fast, gay (but driving) piece in sonata-allegro form. The slow movement, in a more con- templative mood, is an arresting study in tone color and temporal balances. The Finale is a spoof on all finales, based on an assortment of comical motives delivered at break neck speed and chock full of highly stylized virtuoso passages. SONATA ON JAZZ ELEMENTS is the first in a series of many experimental jazz-oriented compositions by Mr. Kupferman. The Sonata's three movements are based on an advanced keyboard approach which draws its tonal and structural resources from the contemporary world of systematic atonality. Jazz provides the essential vocabulary for rhythm, phrasing and the overall "genre" of the style. A modern interpolation of classical thought is revealed in the cyclical framework of the sonata's principal forms: Sonata-Allegro (marked “Fast and Dry"), Aria-Fantasia ("In Slow Blues Tempo") and strict Fugue in two parts (“Quick Fugue").

Not to be confused or to be confused with the Harold Farberman - The Orchestral Music of Meyer Kupferman, Vol. 2 release

Interesting musician. He worked with Samuel Baron - Karl Korte / Mario Davidovsky / Meyer Kupferman ‎on an electronic experimental record titled “Music For Flute & Tape” and Meyer Kupferman / Lou Harrison – Concerto For Cello, Tape And Orchestra / Concerto For Violin And Percussion Orchestra the 70’s.

It will be packed with care and shipped within 24 hours in a brand new record mailer. Rare record that does not show up often. Offers welcome.
