THE OLD TIME GOSPEL HOUR Television is without a doubt one of the most powerful means of reaching great numbers of people. God has blessed the Thomas Road Baptist Church with the means of reaching beyond the walls of the church through television, to reach the people of the southeast. The television equipment, valued at over two hundred thousand dollars, is operated and maintained by a staff of dedicated church laymen. Every Sunday morning these men share the responsibility of producing the program. ELIM HOME Scores of men have found Christ to be the answer while staying at Elim Home for Alcoholics, a related min- istry of the Old Time Gospel Hour. Elim Home treats alcoholism as sin. Jesus Christ is presented as the only hope for deliverance. The purpose of Elim Home is to restore a man to a state of physical, mental, moral, and spiritual health, permitting the individual to return to an active, useful and well balanced life, enabling him to become a productive member of his family, community, and society. Each day’s activ- ities center around Bible study, prayer, and counseling under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Horsley, directors of the home. Elim Home for Alcoholics has made the difference in scores of men’s lives. TREASURE ISLAND Treasure Island is a related ministry of the Thomas Road Baptist Church and operates each summer for a ten week camping period. Thousands of children, ages 9 through 18, are taken free of charge. The purpose of Treasure Island is to lead youth to a knowledge of Christ, promote Christian living and provide a whole- some time of fun and recreation. The camp is located on a beautiful 35 acre tract of land secluded on the historic James River just off Rivermont Avenue in Lynchburg, Virginia. Treasure Island is open to campers of all denominations. Donations made to the camp by churches, civic organizations and parents are used to develop and maintain Treasure Island. LYNCHBURG CHRISTIAN ACADEMY Organized in 1966, Lynchburg Christian Academy is a private, interdenominational, non-profit Christian school which offers high academic and spiritual standards to the families of the Lynchburg area. The pur- pose of the school is to give the Christian training along with solid academic foundation in the basic fundamentals of learning to the average and above average student. Under the direction of Dr. A. P. Guill- ermin, the faculty and staff members are of the highest caliber and are educationally prepared to give each student a thorough scholastic background. THE THOMAS ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH The Thomas Road Baptist Church and its pastor, Jerry Falwell, have experienced unprecedented blessings and growth during the past years. In June of 1956, Jerry Falwell and thirty-four persons founded the Thomas Road Baptist Church. The first service was held in the Mountain View School. Moving to a rented building on Thomas Road, the newly organized church began its agressive ministry which has led in these few years to the present stature of the church, the largest church in Virginia, with buildings valued at ap- proximately three million dollars, and resting on twenty choice acres in West Lynchburg. The church houses the eighth largest Sun- day School in the world, according to Christian Life Magazine.
