The Jeff Wayne Space Shuttle – Theme From Star Trek / Theme From "Planet Of The Apes" TV Series (Apes' Shuffle) / Batman Theme / Superman Theme
Legendary cult soul funk groover "Apes' Shuffle" is on this LP, a genuine funkified simian MONSTER groove with strip club sax, moog photon torpedos and, of course, the sound of several big bad apes wailing and squealing in the background. But, oddly enough, the STAR TREK theme gets top billing on the album cover - even though there's an ape below - and sure enough, the Jeff Wayne Space Shuttle's take on Shatner's theme song is a WILD moog and saxophone freakout with a groove the original NEVER had, and some cool Linus-on-a-sugar-high piano runs. Also of note: a thrashing loose garage frat party deconstruction of the Batman theme that sounds like it was recorded in 1964 on recording equipment the Sonics threw out, and that kinda makes me wonder if the so-called "Jeff Wayne Space Shuttle" ain't really several different bands recording in several different decades and finally compiled here on this nifty little scattershot superhero/sci-fi/monkey theme show album.
Jeffry Wayne (born 1 July 1943) is an American-British composer, musician and lyricist. In 1978, he released Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, his musical adaptation of H. G. Wells' science-fiction novel The War of the Worlds. Wayne wrote approximately 3,000 advertising jingles in the 1970s which appeared on television in the United Kingdom, including a Gordon's Gin commercial which was covered by The Human League. Wayne also composed numerous television themes, including Good Morning Britain (TV-am), ITV's The Big Match and World of Sport, BBC's Sixty Minutes, and for 24 years, the UK's first news radio station, LBC. Wayne wrote feature film and documentary film scores and was musical director for various artists. Wayne published a book called The Book of Tennis and created, produced and scored eight thirty-minute episodes of The Book of Tennis Chronicles that was distributed by Fox Sports in approximately twenty countries, and was broadcast in the US on The Tennis Channel between 2005 and 2008.
CONDITION Descriptions:
I base the condition of each of my Records off of Ebay's Grading System.
• MINT (M) Looks new and unplayed. Very high vinyl luster and no noticeable label defects. Sounds new. With 45rpm records, this does not always mean there is no surface noise at all.
• NEAR MINT (NM) Looks almost new, but has some minor flaws such as a drill hole; unobtrusive writing on label (e.g., an X on a promo copy); minor scuffing on vinyl; minor color flaking on label, or other insignificant flaws that only slightly detract from visual appeal. May have some minor surface noise, but nothing distracting.
• VERY GOOD (VG) There may be light scuffing and some of the original vinyl luster may be lost. The vinyl and label may appear used, but well cared for. Records may have some more obvious flaws that are not visually degrading such as a sticker on the label; more noticeable writing on the label; scuffing and minor scratches on the vinyl; or minor discoloration of the label. There may be very minor warping of the vinyl. There may be a slight scratch not affecting play.
• GOOD (G) Record has visible signs of handling and playing, such as loss of vinyl luster, minor surface scratches, groove wear, and audible surface noise. Appears well used but not abused. May have a few major flaws, such as scratches, label tears, or stickers, and/or writing.
• FAIR (F) Appears well used and somewhat abused. Audio is not great due to surface noise and scratches. The record may have a stick or a skip. Records in this condition are those you might purchase to fill a hole in your collection until a better copy comes along.
• POOR (P) Well played with little luster and significant surface noise, but still not cracked or broken. Record likely skips and/or sticks. Typically so bad looking that a true “collector” would just toss it out. More useful as a Frisbee. I try not to sell records in this condition.
