The Lincoln Christian College Chorale (a mixed group of 63 members) and the Master’s Men (a men’s glee club of 25 members) are auditioned choirs under the direction of K. David Hargrove, Professor of Music. Mr. Hargrove received his musical training at Lincoln Christian College and graduated with a Master in Music Education from James Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois in 1963. He was the Minister of Music and Youth Minister at Lincoln Christian Church for seven years prior to his assuming a teach- ing position at Lincoln Christian College. He is the author of the dramas Onesimus, Mercy in 514, Metamorphisis, The Price, and is the composer, lyricist, and author of the musical play Where All Paths Meet. Lincoln Christian College is an in- stitution of higher learning for ministers and other Christian workers located in Lincoln, Illinois. In 1964 the school cele- brated its 20th anniversary and is a college of the Christian churches and Churches of Christ of the United States. The college has a four-year under gradu- ate program and a seminary which grants graduate degrees. Jerzy (George) Bajenski, the golden-voiced tenor, was born De- cember 13, 1940, in the little village of Hrubuszow, Poland, 100 miles southeast of the capital city of War- saw. His parents, Paul and Alex- andra Bajenski, were Christian people who raised their three chil- dren in thel love and admonition of the Lord. In fact, George’s earliest recollections of music are the lull- aby’s which his mother and grand- mother sang to induce sleep. His father being a Christian minister traveled a great deal and. the family moved several times but settled in Warsaw in time for George’s high school educa- tion at T. Raytana Lice uni (school). It was after his graduation from high school that George decided to follow in his father’s footsteps by preparing for the Christian ministry. He had had no formal musical training and in 1959 completed one year of study at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw. That same year at the invitation of the Christian churches in the United States, he and his friend Kon- stanty Jakoniuk arrived to study at Eastern Christian College, Bel Air, Maryland. While there, George had his first opportunities for Christian service. He was first introduced to a large aggregation when he sang “How Great Thou Art” in English, Polish, and Russian at the 1961 North American Christian Convention in Wichita, Kansas. He has not missed singing at a session of the convention since that time. (In fact, it was at the St. Louis, Missouri convention in 1964 that President L. H. Appel dubbed him “the golden-voiced tenor”.) While in Maryland, George sang for two years with the Hartford Choral Society which at the 1963 Christmas season performed Hand- el’s Messiah in the Lyric Theater with Baltimore’s Symphony Or- chestra. While here, he came in contact with Fredrick C. Petrich, Professor of Music at Peabody Institute in Baltimore. Through the generosity of the First Christian Church in Canton, Ohio, where Roger Kerner was the Minister of Music, George was able to take lessons from Professor Petrich — his first formal training in correct singing. In September of 1963 he transferred to Lincoln Christian College at Lincoln, Illinois, to complete his ministerial training which he did the following spring by graduating with an A. B. in ministerial science. Having felt the call to an enlarged ministry through music he postponed his returning to Poland for one year in order to com- plete the Bachelor of Sacred Music degree. His musical studies have climaxed in this record album and in his graduating voice recital per- formed on the campus of Lincoln Christian College. George plans to return to Poland in the summer of 1965 to serve the Lord through music and preaching wherever, and whenever the Lord leads. KINGDOM KRAFT P. 0.
