This Is Ireland - Ruby Murray - Vinyl LP TL5444 – Very Rare!
Ruby Florence Murray (29 March 1935 – 17 December 1996) was a Northern Irish singer and actress. She was one of the most popular singers in the British Isles in the 1950s and scored ten hits in the UK Singles Chart between 1954 and 1959.
She also made pop chart history in March 1955 by having five hits in the Top Twenty in a single week (still an unbeaten achievement I understand).
Murray's popularity led to her name being adopted in Cockney rhyming slang as a rhyme for "curry". The phrase "have a ruby" appears in various episodes of the BBC TV comedy series Only Fools and Horses (and many Indian restaurants apparently incorporate the word ‘Ruby’ in their titles to this day).
Ruby Murray still has a substantial following with specialist websites etc.
This very rare (I couldn’t find any others on eBay!) Mono UK vinyl Folk Album was, I understand, recorded in 1967 and released in early 1968 on the Fontana label. On it, she is accompanied by Tilsley Orchestral.
It is in excellent condition in view of its age (and hasn’t been played for several decades!). It comes with a clean, sound, original sleeve.
