The first time I ever saw David Grisman was in 1968 in a band called Earth Opera, opening for The Doors at Asbury Park Convention Hall. Earth Opera was a Boston hippie/psych band fronted by Peter Rowan and their performance was mind-bending. In the strength of seeing that I convinced my parents to buy me an electric mandolin which I learned to play fairly well at the time, but nowhere even close to Grisman on his worst day. These albums a decade later are fairly far off from Earth Opera, the Rounder Album being bluegrass and Hot Dawg - gypsy jazz. Great stuff though, and they were completely play-tested for the vinyl grades above. Both are First Pressings.
