The fourth album for The Smiths, originally released in 1987, takes its title from Manchester's Strangeways Prison (which has since been renamed). "Strangeways, Here We Come" was recorded at the Wool Hall studios in Bath, England. The album features the group experimenting with synthesized saxophone and string arrangements as well as the drum machine. The group disbanded prior to the release of this album with the announcement by Johnny Marr of his leaving the band. The record rose to number two in the UK and number 55 in the American charts.
