The Spoken Arts record label was One of the first companies to record the spoken word, founded in 1956 by Dr. Luce and Arthur Klein. Its self-declared mission was to "encourage a revival and reevaluation of the importance of the spoken word". It became well known for its recordings of 20th century authors and poets reading their own works, including such notables as Arthur Miller, Dorothy Parker, William Butler Yeats, Pablo Neruda, Gertrude Stein, W. H. Auden, Anaïs Nin and many others.

This is a very rare set of recordings, undated but likely released sometime in the 1970s. While Discogs lists many of the Spoken Arts releases, they don't have this one. Three of the four albums have shrinkwrap on the covers. Those same three albums state "For Use With Manual Projector" on the label while the fourth states "For Use With Automatic Projector." There are no films, videos, books or slides accompanying these records so uit hardly matters. Album jackets look the same on both sides. The covers in the shrink wrap are Near Mint, while the one without is excellent. Records appear to be EXCELLENT with minimal wear.

Story reader Frances Sternhagen was an Emmy winning TV actress and a Tony-winning Broadway actress in a career spanning at least 6 decades, and at the moment, is still alive (93). Singer Songwriter Jim Gold (music on these albums) seems to be best known as a member of the pop group GALLERY, for his song Nice to Be with You (1972).
