The tapes were recorded in April, 1959 at the Multnomah Jazz Club and Clark College, both in the Portland, Oregon area. Four months later, the Dave Brubeck Quartet recorded their legendary LP, "Time Out", and changed the course of jazz forever. This new LP showcases the poll-winning quartet at the peak of their improvisational powers, especially demonstrating their unique mastery of improvising counterpoint (a musical device updated from Bach) while swinging through jazz standards and original compositions.
