This is part of a large auction featuring blues, R&B and doo-wop, from several different labels - a real mix this time with a nice selection of unusual small label stuff. There are a handful of Aladdin and King, but there are also some one offs from Ivy, Home of the Blues and more.

Release: Jimmy Liggins with Band - I Ain't Drunk / Talking That Talk

Format: 45 rpm 7" single

Year: 1954

Notes: Blue label first press. The third of just a handful of singles released by Liggins, almost all of which are about drinking. This one is just a great tune, excellent vocals with a catchy melody. It has appeared on a handful of comps over the years. B-side is a bluesy R&B track that is also really good.

Vinyl Condition: VG, I'm really not sure how to grade this one. There is no actual damage to the record at all. No scuffs or scratches, label is clean with just some light ring scuffing. The problem here is that it's a poor pressing. It appears to me just not quite enough vinyl went through the press resulting in shallow grooves. The record has a matte finish, as opposed to a bright sheen and the sound is somewhat muted. The effect is worse in the first 10-20 seconds and then gets better. There is light background "hum" as well. Not terrible, but obviously not as good as a NM copy. You could probably amp up the sound a bit with software or an external device, but I'll leave that to the buyer. At the very least this is a nice place holder that you can get at a well-below market price.

All records I sell have been personally cleaned and play tested. Check back in a couple of weeks for another new genre auction: dance records from the 70's to the early 2000's.
