Mint (M)
Perfect in every way. Often rumored but rarely seen.

Near Mint (NM OR M-)
Looks like it just came from a retail store. Shiny with no visible defects. No writing, stickers or other markings appear on the label. No spindle marks. No major factory defects. If played, it will do so with no surface noise. NM covers are free of creases, ring wear and seam splits of any kind.

Excellent Plus (EX+)
Close to NM-. May have superficial signs of use that don't affect play.

Excellent (EX)
A used copy that may show light signs of play. Vinyl will have original gloss and will play like EX+

VG+
Plays well without issues May show signs that it was played and handled in good care. Any defects are of a cosmetic nature and do not affect the actual playback. Vinyl should still have glossy surface but may show slight scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect playback. May have minor signs of handling such as telltale marks around the center hole. VG+ should be a good value for the majority of buyers.

Cover should have only minor wear marks or seam splits. May have some defacing, such as a cut out marking. May have slightly turned-up corners. May be some very light ring wear or discoloration.

Very Good (VG)
Imperfections are more obvious. Lack of original gloss. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. May have some surface noise and some scratches that may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and ending.

May have minor writing, tape or a sticker. May have many signs of handling. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover is obvious but not overwhelming. Some more creases might be visible. Seam splitting may be more obvious. May have writing or a stamp price tag.

Good
Record still plays through without skipping but has significant surface noise and groove wear, and the label is worn, with significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably. A Good  cover has ring wear to the point of distraction, has seam splits obvious on sight and may have even heavier writing, such as, for example, huge radio station letters written across the front to deter theft.
