DESCRIPTION:
Elonkorjuu (Finnish for harvest time) was formed in 1969 in the southwestern Finnish town of Pori by singer and guitarist Jukka Syrenius. In the autumn of 1970 the band were awarded second place in a music contest called Rockin' Suomen Mestaruus (Finnish Championship of Rock Bands). They were one of few (and early) Finnish bands to play a style of heavy blues/rock/psych music with strong progressive elements that drew from Cream, Black Sabbath, and Colosseum while adding their own signature of soulful Hammond organ and flute to back the cutting guitar of Jukka Syrenius; there is also a touch of garage to their sound. They became extremely popular on the festival circuit and in hopes of reaching an international market, Harvest Time was recorded with English lyrics, originally issued through EMI of Finland in 1972. However the band remained obscure outside of their homeland; original copies of their album fetch over $700 on the collectors’ market. A second album was issued in 1978 under the band name Harvest, but this did little to attract an international following and the band broke up later that year. In 2003 they regrouped with some replacements and continue to be a popular draw at concerts as well as issuing a third studio album in 2004. Recommended and worthy of your further investigation.
