DJANGO REINHARDT * HOT CLUB of PARIS * Capitol TBO10226 (2LP) RARE JAZZ EX

Gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt was recognized for his talent by American jazz men and fans alike. Coleman Hawkins said:“He was one of the greatest I’ve ever heard, ” and guitarist Barney Kessel summed up: “Django had real fire in his playing. You can tell instantly who it is.”

This album’s excellent sound, recorded in Paris in 1937 and 1945, gives a realistic idea of his playing with the Hot Club of Paris and with American jazz stars like Barney Bigard, clarinet; Rex Stewart, cornet; and Dicky Wells, trombone.

The first two sides feature The Hot Club of Paris with Stephane Grappelly, violin; Django Reinhardt, Pierre Ferret, Marcel Bianchi, guitars, and Louis Vola, bass. Songs included Exactly Like You, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Runnin’ Wild, Body and Soul, Rose Room.

Sides three and four, included Americans Barney Bigard, clarinet; Bill Coleman, trumpet; Big Boy Goudie, tenor sax; Rex Stewart, cornet; and Dicky Wells, trombone; among others.

This monophonic album was recorded in Paris in 1937 and 1945 and released by Capitol Records as TBO 10226 in 1960. The recording is designed to be played by stereo, as well as, mono, systems.
