GRADINGS
VINYL RECORDS - MINT
LABELS - MINT
SLEEVE - EX++
INNER SLEEVES - MINT
Sealed or Mint: Only
used for new or sealed records... Sealed records are assumed to be mint but,
since they're sealed, I can't tell the condition for sure! It is good
practice to guess the condition to be Mint. The sleeve, inner sleeve and or any inserts/posters will be as it left the factory
Excellent+: Not perfect, but darn close! Possibly a very minor scuff or hearlines and very little else can appear on
the vinyl. This will most likely have occurred during packaging, or removing
the record from the inner sleeve. Has been handled with extreme care. It
should play without any noise over the flaw. The flaw should be very hard to
see. The sleeve, inner sleeve and /or any inserts are likely to have minor storage wear and tear
Excellent: A very good copy with very few minor or light surface marks which may be audible but some believe this adds to the playback sound quality. The sleeve, inner sleeve and/or any inserts may possibly have signs of storage and handling wear and tear
VG+: VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs
or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience.
Slight warps that don’t affect the sound are OK. The sleeve, inner sleeve and/or any inserts will have signs or handling and storage wear and tear
VG: Light scratches, slight background noise possible. When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be
audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and
ending. But the noise won’t overpower the music. The sleeve, inner sleeve and/or any inserts are likely to show signs of storage or handling wear and tear, often commensurate with the records age
Good: Record plays without skipping but does have surface noise. Scratches, scuffs and groove wear all possible on this condition. The sleeve, inner sleeve and/or any inserts are likely to be similar to a very good record.
Poor: Lots of surface marks and playback noise. The record/sleeve may be missing parts or have serious flaws. This will be a shelf filler only.
There may be a few audible clicks or pops which experienced collectors understand and believe may enhance the experience.
Vinyl is the best way to play music but those of you starting out collecting vinyl, please understand that these are not necessarily faults. I will list any major faults in the listing.
Any other background sound is part of the experience!
I have put this note on my listing because I have had too many records returned simply because of perceived bad background noise levels only to find the record plays OK, but in truth, the buyer really wants digital sound quality in a record.
This is not really possible. This is not to say there are better pressings with deeper grooves (heavyweight vinyl etc) where there sound quality may be better?
Brand new mint vinyl may have all kinds of background noise. Perhaps not as noticeable as an older record.
Please understand the grading system. It is as precise as possible and as fair as can be.
I will always accept records back if there are any problems. See below.
