INCREDIBLY SCARCE!

Richard Johnson is a native of Cambridge, Massachusetts; he grew up right in Harvard Square.  He was too young to be actively involved in the folk music revival of the early and mid-sixties, but he was there, listening and learning.  But by the time he quit high school, the boom was over; Club 47 was gone, the old Unicorn Coffeehouse was going, and what was left of the folk music scene was hiding out across the river in a few small clubs on Boston’s Charles Street.

It was a tough time for unknown Cambridge folksingers, but it was a good school.  Many people joined or formed bar bands, but Richard continued to go it alone.  Over the next several years, he worked at a variety of jobs, by turns a social worker, truck driver, fork lift operator, salesman, painter, and salad chef, but all that time he kept his hand in, playing what gigs there were at the few remaining Boston area folk clubs.

Today, a new awakening of interest in both traditional and derivative folk music has begun to swell the rank of Richard Johnson’s loyal following, which has finally made this, his first record, possible.  Needless to say, he put a lot of time and hard work into it.  We think, and we hope you’ll agree, that the waiting has been worth it.
