DAVID BOWIE - 'DAVID BOWIE'
Released the same day as 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', Bowie's debut album was, despite heavy promotion & a single, a commercial failure. This genuine UK 1st MONO pressing represents a solid investment opportunity for any serious record collector.

It is on the deep-groove, Decca-pressed Deram label: DML 1007

Matrix numbers: ARL-7754-1B & ARL-7755-1B

Stamper codes: 1/U & 1/B

Disc weight: 146g

Housed in a front laminated 'Clout & Baker' printed mono cover, with original poly-lined inner-sleeve.

Labels: NEAR MINT

A clean & unblemished set with just a single light spindle trail around the side 1 centre hole and a small handful around 2.

Visual: NEAR MINT

This copy has been carefully stored and has clearly been out of its cover just a couple of times over the years. Both deep-gloss playing surfaces are pristine and unmarked in strong daylight with not a single scratch, scuff or mark to be seen. Closer examination directly beneath my unforgiving halogen desk lamp reveals just a handful of barely visible wispy paper hairlines and a sparkling rainbow shine. Both sides of this beautiful copy lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: NEAR MINT

This wonderful sounding copy has been played just three or four times at most and the dedicated mono mix shines through perfectly cleanly and clearly with a warmth and depth missing from any subsequent issue. My single careful play-check at volume detected absolutely no trace of any groove/play wear or crackle on any track or in either channel. The only distractions detected were a few faint ticks at the quiet beginning of 'Please Mr Gravedigger'. No upgrade need here.

Cover: VERY GOOD

A respectable example of this fragile cover which retains a clean, glossy & unfaded front panel.

There are several bends/wrinkles to the laminate but no tears, missing paper or other major wear.

There is some softening to the corners and there is slight wear to the front opening edge with a 2cm repaired tear to the rear.

The rear panel has some age-toning to the white areas but is free from any writing or missing paper.

Both seams are smooth & unstressed and the spine is fully worded.

Inner-sleeve: VERY GOOD +

Clean & flat with light storage bends but no writing, tears or seams splits
