Yasmine Hamdan's Ya Nass (Crammed Discs) is an elegant, borderless stream of electro folk pop, with acoustic guitars, vintage synths, and spellbinding atmospheres. While Yasmine's vocals are definitely connected to traditions of Arabic music, the structures and arrangements of the songs are very remote from its codes. The record is grounded in Yasmine's evocative voice, which make these songs familiar, even as they are sung in various Arabic dialects.
