FAIRPORT CONVENTION
What We Did On Our Holidays

Original First Press
Pink Island ''EYE'' Label

Stereo 1968

ILPS + 9092 + A      ILPS + 9092 + B

This is a copy of a very rare LP, being the First Press on the iconic Island Label, with the First Pink Label, with the unusual Orange and Black ''EYE'' symbol, on the left, and the Black witch on a broom-stick, to the right. It was only, as far as far as I know released as Stereo.

The vinyl itself is unique, in its very heavy weight of the 1960s and it has the rare Island Matrices, without a Mother or Stamper, as can be seen in the close up photos I managed to take of the run-off areas. The vinyl, on both sides, is lovely, being Excellent, with no scratches, just odd paper marks, but so few as to be as rare as the record. It has some spindle marks, but not that much evidence, as can be seen, hopefully in the photos.

I bought this from a friend, in the 70s, who, as was common in the those 60s folk club days in Banbury (just outside Cropredy where we would see Fairport play), wrote his name on the label. It is, as can be seen, small and neat. There are no names on the sleeve.

The sleeve is fully intact, with ageing one might expect from a record that is 47 years old. For some reason my friend used careful sellotape around the edges, but I have no idea why, as the seams are all fine and seem still stuck, as was original. I have no issues with this, as it is related to its age and time and I have kept in in a clear plastic wallet, knowing it is valuable anyway, but you will see this in the photos. There is a tiny, tiny little piece of the top left corner missing, but this, I think, was a dent and the cardboard, being old, just cracking. But it is small, again take a look at the photos. All else, with the front laminated sleeve is fine and so, too, on the back, which is not laminated, is fine, too being clean and free form marks or damage.

The inner sleeve is a plain, white dye-cut, which is original and has its old creases, but no splits, as can be seen in the photos above.

This is a rare and superb copy of an old LP and its condition is incredible, despite the little points mentioned. I do hope it goes to a home where it is played, not just collected, as I have cherished this since buying it and I know my friend did, all those years ago in the same area where Fairport Convention lived, worked and often (Chipping Norton) recorded, too.

Postage will be Guaranteed First Class Next Day Recorded, due to its value.

Thanks.
