Edith Piaf inspired the entire film score for Christopher Nolan's blockbuster movie, Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, composed by Hans Zimmer; to be specific, the Piaf song "Non, je ne Regrette Rien". The song was always written in the script, according to director and writer Nolan, so it was inevitable that it would become a major inspiration for the film score.
Hans Zimmer has scored over 100 films, grossing more than 13 billion dollars at the box office worldwide. He has been honored with an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, and three Grammy's. In 2003, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers presented him the prestigious Henry Mancini award for Lifetime Achievement for his impressive and influential body of work. Hans Zimmer and Christopher Nolan last collaborated on The Dark Knight.
"Technically, Mr. Zimmer said, his score is not a slowing-down of the French song, which was composed by Charles Dumont and recorded by Piaf in 1960, but is constructed from a single manipulated beat from it." - Dave Itzkoff, New York Times, September 22, 2010
