CONDITION APPRAISAL GUIDE (Grading)

Based on Goldmine® and Record Collector systems

Mint (M): (Given to new/sealed or like-new items) Record in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover and extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster in perfect condition. Includes records marked as Sealed or Unplayed.

Near Mint (NM): Record and Cover in near new condition. No scratches but perhaps a few superficial blemishes or sleeve chafes. Plays like a new record. No deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent (EX/VG++): Record shows minor signs of being played, but minimal lessening in sound quality. May have a few minor sleeve scuffs. Cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good Plus (VG+) Record may show slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not adversely affect the overall listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, such as spindle marks around the center hole, but repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. May be some light ring wear or discoloration.

Covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have very minor seam wear or a split (less than 1? long), at bottom, the most vulnerable location.  May have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking (deletion cut). Covers with cut-out markings can never be considered Near Mint.

Very Good (VG): Record has obviously been played many times with noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, perhaps a little play wear evident. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable.

Good (G): Record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration.
