Here’s one for the completist of Pink Floyd enthusiasts out there. A TRUE FIRST PRESSING (US) of The Pinks’ Ummagumma. I capitalize “true” due to a long and misunderstood fact of what is a first pressing of this album. ONLY the initial pressing lacks the annoying and insulting “Special Buy! Contains Two Complete LP’s” white lettered print found as part of the front cover artwork. First pressings, and first pressings only, have a Pink Neon Hype Sticker affixed directly onto the front cover (please visit The Pink Floyd Archives site for verification of this fact). Many pressings I’ve browsed online make the error in their claim simply due to the fact that the true first US pressing is indeed very, very rare and is not known to exist, as this version, to many collectors. The sales department at Harvest added those white letters to the front cover artwork for sales purposes (from the second pressing on) deciding that this wasn’t the type of recording that was going to top the charts and went with the “more is better” approach to move stock. Nuff said.

Condition wise this is a beauty. The vinyl (both LP’s) is shiny and plays quiet (for the most part) which, as you know, is a must with these recordings. The only background noise noticeable is on Record 2, side 3, track 1 for a brief period (maybe 15-20 seconds) but nothing major. The labels are clean and bright with no marks. The cover is beautiful and does include the mentioned NEON PINK hype sticker in perfect condition. I won’t say all around mint condition but a very, very nice copy. I’ve had this record for a very long time and have cared for it impeccably. No nasty rubs or heavy shelf wear with just the absolute minimum of any noticeable use. The gatefold still makes a slight “crack” sound whenever it has been opened and that has not been often (I had to open it for the photos). So that’s it. A wonderful example of Pink Floyd’s forth album (issued in 1969) in nearly new condition. For a collector of Pink Floyd vinyl this is a “TRUE” find.

PS: I apologize for coming off a bit pissy and “know it all” with this description but I’m sick and tired of seeing collectors being ripped off by sellers pushing pressings that aren’t what they claim. And one more thing to mention, there were never any US covers produced with the “Gigi” album as part of the artwork. Copyright laws at the time prevented it from being used on US printed covers.

Selling a big part of my personal collection accrued over 5 decades. Will be listing a few auctions a week. Many very rare BEATLES and related items among other artists. Please check in from time to time and see what Rarities and odd pressing I’ve listed from this extensive collection.

The small print: Unfortunately I’ve been getting winning bidders who have no intention of paying for their won items. I must request that payment be made within 48 hours of the auction ending or at least send a simple and brief note letting me know that your payment will be made when able. I’m very flexible in that regard and I just want to know I have a sincere winner. Thank you for your understanding.
