Offered is an early pressing on Verve of the debut album of The Velvet Underground & Nico, with the original Banana front cover designed by Andy Warhol.

There have been over 295 different editions since the original release date (1966), and early pressings remain one of the most valued and sought-after among collectors.

While the experimental and controversial style seems quite tame by modern standards, The Velvet Underground & Nico began what was to become an important new direction in music / performance art. In 2003, The Rolling Stone ranked The Velvet Underground & Nico  #13 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.


Here are some of the particulars about our offered release:

1)  The actual deadwax matrix is listed below.

2)  This is a "third state" cover, with the "torso" airbrushed out.

3)  This is an "East Coast" version, with Side 1 & 2 listed (in CAPS) on the labels.
 
4)  Someone attempted to take Warhol's suggestion to "peel slowly and see", and the banana stem has a partially torn section. There is also a .5 inch mark in the lower portion (please see the close up photos).

THE VINYL -  Lightly played with minimal evidence of spindlewear, both sides of the LP retain all of their original gloss with bright, Blue and Silver Verve labels (please see photos).
 
Evident are some light marks, including sleevewear from the original paper inner sleeve, and some hairlines. All tracks play  with no skipping or sticking.

I completed a playgrade, and found the following:

Side 1 -  EX+ :  Present are very few shallow hairlines that produce no regular noise.

Side 2 -  EX :  Present are some hairlines that are generally too light and shallow to produce regular noise. However, one scratch extends from track A-2 through A-4 that produces a regular click as the needle passes, becoming progressively more shallow and hence less audible.  




THE COVER -   EX :  Please see photos / well-stored with some minor scuffing / present is some minor age-related yellowing evident on the edges of the predominantly white background color / the original banana (sticker?) has some wrinkles (likely from the adhesive) / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact / no writing, paper loss, paper tears (aside from the banana stem), dirt, or stains.     


We have placed both the cover and the LP into separate, protective plastic sleeves.
