David Bowie

6 x original singles 1976 - 1983

It’s been difficult for several weeks now to source my usual eBay stock of art and ephemera because of auction rooms all being closed. I’m therefore cracking on with something I’ve been doing gradually for a while, which is down-sizing my record collection. I plan to move house to somewhere smaller in the next few months so my plan is to reduce my singles collection from around 2,500 records down to around a thousand.

One of the things I’m doing is selling records in small batches. This is the quickest way to reduce my collection and may be a way of finding bargains for the buyer. Note that condition varies quite a lot across the singles included so please read the individual descriptions below carefully. I have room only for brief descriptions of each record but even so I am giving more details than most sellers who rely on abbreviations. If you want more details about any individual record, please message me before bidding

This is a group of singles by David Bowie. Most of them – possibly all of them – were bought new by me at the time. Two (China Girl and Blue Jean) were big sellers but the other four were among Bowie’s less successful releases so are a little harder to find. White Light/White Heat in particular only just scraped into the top fifty, so good copies now are quite uncommon. The records included are as follows, listed in the order they were released. :

Beauty and the Beast b/w Sense of Doubt: RCA Records; PB 1190, 1977

Playing surface is pretty much unmarked. A very good copy. Sleeve is also very good but please note that the back of the sleeve and the label to the B-side have a large black “X” in ink across their surfaces. Older eBayers will remember that some record shops used to do this as standard practice to indicate that the record was being sold as leftover stock, usually at half price. I didn’t even know at the time what the purpose of this practice was but if you had too many records with crosses on them, it marked you out as an un-hip cheapskate who waited until records were out of the charts before buying!

Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)  b/w Because You’re Young: RCA Records; BOW 8, 1980

Light surface marks only. Plays very cleanly. Sleeve slightly creased at top edge, otherwise fine. Labels clean.

Wild is the Wind b/w Golden Years: RCA Records; BOW 10, 1981

Light surface marks. There is a little light crackling audible in the quieter passage at the opening of the A-side. On the B-side which has become the better known track, the run-in grooves are a bit crackly but after that there is no audible intrusion. Picture sleeve is a little rubbed around the edges and slightly creased but otherwise complete and intact. Clean labels.

China Girl b/w Shake It: EMI America; EA 157, 1983

The most marked of the six in terms of the surface of the record but plays OK after a little crackling in the run-in grooves and the first two or three seconds of the music. There is also noise caused by surface damage to the last few seconds of the A-side. Sleeve is rather tatty at the top edge but otherwise OK.

White Light/White Heat b/w Cracked Actor: RCA Records; RCA 372, 1983

A very nice copy. Almost no marks to the playing surface of the record. Very good sleeve with just a little light creasing. Clean labels.

Blue Jean b/w Dancing with the Big Boys: EMI America; EA 181, 1984

Another very nice example. Very few marks and plays extremely well. Clean labels. No picture sleeve though.

UK Postage and packing: £3.50.

International postage and packing:  Click on the “Postage and Payments” tab above to see prices to overseas destinations.

All postage prices quoted (UK and international) are maximum charges.  If postage and packing costs less than these estimates, I will refund the difference after posting (subject to the difference being £1.00 or more). Unless otherwise indicated, the postage prices I give in the listing are for a tracked and signed-for service, as required by eBay. If however, winning buyers would prefer cheaper options, I am always happy to help with that if I can. Please contact me for a quote.

I hope this description has given you enough to go on but should you require any further information, or more images, please do e-mail.  Please also look carefully at the hi-res photos – they are part of the description.  Thanks for your interest in this auction and good luck if you decide to bid.

Please note:  I will not respond to requests to close the auction early regardless of the value of the offer made.  Ending early is contrary to both the principle and spirit of an auction. It is also unfair to other eBayers who may be watching the auction intending to bid at a later time.
