Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out b/w She’s The One

Columbia Records; 3-10274, 1975. Canadian release.

Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out from the Born To Run album only made the lower reaches of the US and Canadian charts, and was unsuccessful everywhere else that it was released. That is surprising in a way since the title track from the album when released as a single earlier in 1975 had done pretty well, particularly in the USA.

I know this Canadian issue of the single is now very rare and that copies can command very high prices but – before you get too excited about this one – let me make it very clear from the outset that this example is in very disappointing condition. It is suitable, at best, only as a place-filler in your collection until you find – or can afford – a better copy.

The record is from my own collection. I didn’t buy it new but I’ve had it a very long time. I’d guess I probably bought it in the 1990s. I bought it in the UK by the way but obviously I’ve no idea how it got here. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out was actually released as a single over here at the same time it was released in the USA and Canada, so there was no need to import a copy.

The record itself has lots and lots of surface marks to both sides. This would not be so bad – it just makes the record a bit crackly -, but there are a small number of deeper marks so that there are also distinct clicks and pops in places.

Finally, to make matters worse there is a pressing fault to the A-side. The fault itself is miniscule. With a magnifying glass you can see a tiny bump of vinyl, smaller than a pinhead. It only sits on two grooves but it is enough to make the record skip at that point.

The labels are in OK condition as you can see, with just a small amount of writing to the A-side. Like most US and Canadian records it has a large centre hole but I will include a pop-in centre with it. It comes in a plain white sleeve.

There are four copies of this Canadian release listed on Discogs at the moment with asking prices between £145.00 and over £400.00. So there you have it. This is an otherwise valuable record but in really quite poor condition. Please don’t delude yourself into thinking that it is better than I have said – it isn’t. I’m a collector myself though, so I know that a very rare record is a nice artefact to have whatever the condition. I’ve started it at a low price.

I hope this description has given you enough to go on but should you require any further information, or more images, please do e-mail.  Please also look carefully at the hi-res photos – they are part of the description.  Thanks for your interest in this auction and good luck if you decide to bid.

Please note:  I will not respond to requests to close the auction early regardless of the value of the offer made.  Ending early is contrary to both the principle and spirit of an auction. It is also unfair to other eBayers who may be watching the auction intending to bid at a later time.
