After five years of controversy, side projects and enough mixtapes to fill a plus size vault, it's hard to believe that OF Tape Vol. 2 is Odd Future's major label debut. But after so many years with the freedom to be as experimental, shocking and immature as they please, have the 11-strong collective been tamed for global success?

As the record's trailer 'Rella' proves, they're not afraid to avoid reining in the reprehensible language and menacing beats that got them noticed in the first place. The brilliant wordplay continues on the lion's share of the LP's 18 cuts, with special mentions to 'Oldie' and 'Lean', where Hodgy Beats likens himself to the "Flexosaurus" of the dinosaur world. Unofficial frontman Tyler, The Creator dominates throughout, his haunting flow adding more gruesomeness to 'NY (Ned Flander)' and 'Sam (Is Dead)'. But it's Frank Ocean's smooth and timeless vocal on the likes of 'Analog 2' and 'White' that is the real winner here, often harking back to R&B's '90s heydey. The 10-minute closer 'Oldie' - in which everyone has a turn on the mic including the often-absent Earl Sweatshirt - is a shining example of what they can do when they put their minds to it. Beneath the shock tactics, boundary-prodding visuals and unruly lyrics, Odd Future can, if they so choose, also make brilliant hip-hop.
