Not Shy is the second album by singer-songwriter Walter Egan, released in 1978. It produced the hit single "Magnet and Steel" which reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was also featured in the hit Hollywood movie "Boogie Nights." The album was produced by Lindsay Buckingham and has vocals by Stevie Nicks.
AllMusic Review by Scott Kutner
A year after recording his 1977 debut album Fundamental Roll, New York City native turned California rocker Walter Egan, found himself back in the studio once again joining forces with Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham (producer) and Stevie Nicks (background vocals). The winning combination of the Egan, Buckingham, and Nicks on Not Shy proved it's potency by giving Egan one of the biggest smash hits of 1978, "Magnet & Steel" which peaked at # 8 on the Billboard charts. Much like it's predecessor Fundamental Roll, Not Shy oozes sexy summertime California pop rock complete with an impeccable production and Egan's knack for writing catchy fun-loving romantic lyrics. Which again is best exemplified on "Magnet & Steel", a 50's doo-wop style ballad in which Egan's warm laid-back soulful voice melts with Buckingham and Nick's angelic background vocals. While the remaining nine tracks on Not Shy may not come close to the magic of "Magnet & Steel" most are as equally memorable. After listening to the record it's a mystery why such tracks as "Blonde in The Blue T-Bird" (featuring Dean Torrance of Jan & Dean fame on background vocals) and "Finally Find A Girlfriend" didn't give Egan any follow up hits. Stylistically Not Shy exhibits a bit of sleeker pop-rock approach than the more straight-up country rock of Fundamental Roll but at the same time still maintains a good dose of classic country rock twang. Like Fundamental Roll, Not Shy is a lost 70s treasure and is highly recommend listening for both fans of Fleetwood Mac and goodtime Southern California rock in general.

I use the Goldmine Grading System, and play-test all records. I note any differences between vinyl and cover, and make note of any inserts, special sleeves, or potential defects.

MINT (M) - Absolutely perfect in every way. Most often this is a still sealed record, records that have been opened are rarely if ever marked as Mint.

NEAR MINT (NM) - A good description is that it looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the first time. In other words, it?s nearly perfect, with no visible defects.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) - Except for a couple minor things, this could be Near Mint. Most collectors will be happy with a VG+ record, especially if on the high end (VG++). VG+ records may show slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Covers should have only minor wear.

VERY GOOD (VG) - VG records are among the biggest bargains, and for many, will be worth the money. They can lack the original gloss, may have surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages. But the noise will not overpower the music. VG covers will have signs of handling, and may have minor splits.

GOOD PLUS (G+) - Good+ does not mean bad! The record still plays through without skipping, but it has significant surface noise and groove wear. Cover may have significant ring wear, noticeable writing, or obvious damage.

GOOD (G) - Record may have some skipping, but is otherwise listenable. I generally avoid selling Good (G) rated records unless they are highly collectible or desirable, in order to enjoy until something better comes along. Cover has major wear or seam splits that need repair, or heavy writing like radio station call letters to prevent theft.
