MILES - THE NEW MILES DAVIS QUINTET - DEBUT LP - Ed1 in Mono on Prestige EX+ MILES - THE NEW MILES DAVIS QUINTET - DEBUT LP - Ed1 in Mono on Prestige EX+ Description
Offered is a great rarity in recorded Jazz: Miles - The New Miles Davis Quintet - the Debut Album for the New Miles Davis Quintet.
This is the 1st Edition, and the 1st Pressing on the Prestige Fireworks label with the Green Cover - mastered by the fabulous Rudy Van Gelder. This Quintet featured the Legendary Jazz Greats John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and "Philly" Joe Jones as well as Miles.
Here are some of the identifying markers of this 1st Edition Pressing:
1) The Album front cover is green, unlike the later editions that were blue.
2) The record labels have the misprint - calling the band "The New Miles Davis Quartet" rather than the correct "The New Miles Davis Quintet" on both sides of the cover.
3) The Prestige Records address of 446 West 50th Street, New York on both of the Yellow and Black "Fireworks" Labels.
4) The Deadwax Matrixes - which we have listed at the bottom of this page.
The LP and the Album Cover are in marvelous, investment-grade condition (Excellent +). This is unusual for a Jazz Classic issued in 1956, but we think it might have been put on 4 track tape for playback early on. Written in ink on the label of Side B is "C'd 2/58" - please see the close-up photo of this in our Photo Gallery.
