1989 was the top year for ingenious death metal releases. Thus,also the all-time classic by MORBID ANGEL ''Altars Of Madness'' came to light for the first time in this year. MORBID ANGEL is without a shadow of a doubt one of the founding bands of death metal. The band from Florida has been active since 1984 and, after a few demos, released their first full album in 1989, which is considered an epochal masterpiece of the genre in every respect and has rightly secured its place in the death metal halls of fame. Just take a look at the tracklist to see how many younger bands have named themselves after tracks from this album. ''Altars Of Madness'' is much more than simply an early death metal album. It reveals its roots in early thrash metal and in the original black metal of the first half of the eighties very clearly, and the fact that the guitarists Herren Brunelle and Azagthoth were still audibly influenced by SLAYER at the time is certainly not a malicious insinuation. Nevertheless, the MORBID ANGEL?s, just like their colleagues from DEATH or OBITUARY, went a step further than their idols, but each went their own, original way. Here is the limited 2020 re-issue of this classic as black vinyl with lyric sheet & gatefold cover.
