A Collection of Beatles Oldies (subtitled But Goldies!) is a rare compilation album featuring a selection of songs by The Beatles recorded between 1963 and 1966. The album was released in the United Kingdom and Australia in both mono (catalogue number PMC 7016) and stereo (PCS 7016.) The album was released as work was underway for the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band LP. The sole new track, a cover of Larry Williams' "Bad Boy", had not yet appeared on a Beatles LP in the UK, but had already been released in the United States on the Capitol album Beatles VI.

The album reached number 7 in the UK album chart, and the album continued to sell well, remaining in print for many years, until it was deleted when the compact disc age approached (and made obsolete by the Past Masters compilations). It was also the longest album that the Beatles had released to that point, totalling almost 40 minutes of music. The cover of this album contributed to the "Paul is dead" hoax, as the road shown on the cover seems to lead into the head of the man sitting on the cover.

It is noteworthy that six of the tracks on this LP ("From Me To You", "We Can Work It Out", "I Feel Fine", "Day Tripper", "Paperback Writer" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand") make their debut here as both album tracks (they were previously issued only as singles) and with stereo mixes (some done so especially for this compilation). "She Loves You" also made its debut on a long-playing record here, but it was a re-processed stereo mix, as the multi-track tape had vanished and remains missing to this day.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO - sound quality throughout

This great record plays up to the visual and audio grading and beyond, with stunning audio.

A COLLECTION OF BEATLES OLDIES is a  varied collection of music, and is a relatively sensitive piece of vinyl, being hard to find in clear TOP audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks. This pressing has strong undistorted audio, with Super clear sound throughout. There are NO loud pops or clicks and NO Distortion what so ever. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity! Superb sound with amazingly clear audio, every track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes. There are NO loud clicks or pops during playback. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find on these original UK 1st pressings.

A great all round example of this great vinyl. I will give a detailed account below:

Side 1. starts with the classic 'She Loves You', following extremely clear run ins, and then really loud, punchy audio, it plays with superb, clear, perfect sound.  It really takes you back to the Beatles early music, and plays with no pops clicks, and certainly not a hint of distortion. 'From Me To You' just plays superbly, as does 'We Can Work It Out'. There is some static between the tracks but its very light.

'Help' powers in with super clear sound, and still not a single noticeable pop or click. Perhaps a slight tic in the middle but thats about it. The slower 'Michele' again plays really well, this really is a great audio performance. There is a bit of static between the tracks but barely any at all during this quiet track, and just one light pop in the middle of the track. Just some very occasional and very light surface sound, but its in no way prominent or even that noticeable. And then 'Yesterday' again plays superbly with very little surface sound and no pops or clicks at all. 'I Feel Fine' plays with near perfect audio. Rounding off side 1. is the classic 'Yellow Submarine', a track on this album that nearly always plays with problems, heavy distortion and buzzing on even little played pieces. This track plays really well, with great clear audio, again incredibly loud,  a bit of very light static only, rounding off a superb audio performance.

-

Side 2. starting with the classic 'Cant Buy Me Love', following extremely clear run ins, and then really loud, punchy, great audio. No pops clicks or distortion, and just some static between the tracks. Incredibly powerful and loud sound. 'Bad Boy', and again the sound is superb. The vocals vocals are really loud and clear. 'Day Tripper' again plays with superb audio, bright and powerful. There are certainly no obvious issues, just superb clear audio and one light pop in the middle of the track.

'Hard Days Night' again plays with clear sound followed by 'Ticket To Ride', which also plays superbly.  'Paper Back Writer', again sounds great, with none of the blurring that this track is so prone to. Amazing clear sound and no pops or clicks, and no noticeable light static. The classic quiet 'Eleanor Rigby' plays beautifully, and this track is always a real test for vinyl. Here it plays with an absolute minimal static, barely any surface sound at all, its so quiet, and just one light pop in the middle of the track. A great audio performance. Finishing side 2. 'I want to Hold Your Hand' continues the high standard, with no loud pops or clicks, and not even a hint of distortion. This track is often prone to buzzing or light distortion on these pressings, and there is absolutely none here what so ever. Just bright, super clear, detailed rockous sound.

The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten. No loud pops or clicks, certainly not a hint of distortion, and barely any detectable light distant occasional surface static.

Staggering first (stereo) mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact. A great all round example of this great vinyl. A great all round example of this classic vinyl.

This is a great Audio pleasure and I would have to give the audio a NEAR MINT grading.

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING

This is a superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original pressings, this vinyl has been barely played. The record has great shine, with NO scratches and just a couple of very faint hairlines. Inspected under a high powered spot light, there are some very light paper removal marks, a couple of ultra light whispy lines only. This is a great example.

Graded at NEAR MINT.

This early STEREO Press gives a great authentic Beatles listening experience. Hard to believe this great vinyl is from the 60's!

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

THE LABELS

These 1st Press Parlophone labels are in stunning condition, with no sticker marks or writing, and barely a single spindle trace to be found. They are virtually unmarked.

Graded at NEAR MINT Condition.

THE COVER

This vinyl comes complete with the original rare STEREO issue Garrod and Lofthouse cover.

These Goldies covers are prone to wear, like so many of the classic Beatles covers from the sixties. The laminate is prone to cracking and lifting, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges. The unlaminated back is usually heavily marked and The spines are nearly always flattened, worn and un readable. Not this one!

There is very little scuffing to the corners or rubbing along the edges. The opening edges are very square and un frayed, with none of the common small splits at the opening. The white areas are very white, with some very slight discolouration only. The back cover is nice and clean, with NO rubbing, finger prints (that are nearly always present and cant really be removed)  and  NO ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers. The spine is square and un broken, with a coupe of faint creases only.  The text is completely in tact. A nice example.

Graded at NEAR MINT Condition.

-

THE INNER

This classic pressing comes with the correct black and white Picture EMI Emitex inner sleeve. The mono pressings came with a red and white Picture EMI Emitex inner sleeve. With NO splits on any of the sides, and NO splits or frays at the top, and NO staining. There is some marking from the impression of the record and a couple of creases, as seen in the images.  The record will of course come in a plain white replacement inner sleeve, to protect the originals.

Graded at EXCELLENT Condition.

-

RARITY

EARLY STEREO PRESSINGS of BEATLES OLDIES in playable condition are becoming scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound.

The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this is a TOP pressing, with NO cracks or marks. Finding a great cover like this, with a heavy piece of vinyl, fantastic!.

FINDING AN ORIGINAL 1st PRESSING, with ULTRA CLEAN LABEL, GREAT COVER and TOP CLEAR AUDIO THROUGHOUT, MAKES THIS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY!

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING:

All our records are play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. We aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound, pointing out the slightest defect so that you know exactly what you are buying. We aim to describe all records as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and we advise a light clean between plays for optimal performance.
