DescriptionIn the spring
of 1962 the Beatles were heroes in Liverpool, but their first ever radio
session was recorded in Manchester. One evening in March they performed three
cover versions, which were broadcast on the BBC’s
Light Programme the
following afternoon. Three months later - just after their first EMI
session - they appeared on the same show, this time performing a
Lennon-McCartney original, Ask Me Why - the first of their songs to be
broadcast. By then, drummer Pete Best’s days with the group were numbered,
making the recordings presented here a fascinating time capsule. Background
notes and images are included.
