*Here is a detailed explanation of my RECORD GRADING SYSTEM:
All
items are graded VISUALLY and not tested for sound unless otherwise
noted. I will also usually try to note any specific details in addition
to the grade or photos of the item.
NM (Near Mint)
COVER: Appears brand new and displaying no imperfections, wear, or signs of handling. I rarely use this grade.
VINYL: Appears absolutely unplayed and bearing no marks, sleeve scuffs, or scratches. I rarely use this grade.
VG++ (Very Good Plus Plus)
COVER:
Appears as though it were brand new, but on closer inspection will
display one or two superficial imperfections, most frequently very light
wear to the corners or seams.
VINYL: Presence of one or two
visible imperfections that are purely cosmetic in nature (i.e. sleeve
scuffs or other superficial marks) and will not affect play. A VG++
record will have no scratches.
VG+ (Very Good Plus)
COVER: A
few noticeable imperfections or signs of wear, but neither prominent nor
numerous (e.g. a single seam or spine split not exceeding 1" in length,
light stains or discoloration, small crease marks, and/or very faint
shelf or ring wear).
VINYL: A few visible imperfections. (e.g.
sleeve scuffs, superficial marks, and/or light non-feelable scratches).
The presence of a single light scratch is enough to grade an otherwise
clean record VG+; a VG+ record will have no more than a few such
scratches.
VG (Very Good)
COVER: Similar kinds of
imperfections and signs of wear as on a VG+ cover, but more pronounced
or present in greater numbers (e.g. seam or spine splits not exceeding
5" in length). The presence of a single pronounced flaw (e.g. prominent
shelf or ring wear, marking, staining, writing, or discoloration) will
cause an LP cover to receive this grade, as will the presence of an
appreciable number of minor flaws.
VINYL: Similar kinds of
imperfections found on VG+ records but in slightly greater numbers.
There may be a number of light scratches and other marks, but a VG
record will not have any scratches deep enough to be felt with a
fingernail.
VG- (Very Good Minus)
COVER: An appreciable number
of minor imperfections and one or more pronounced flaws such as
prominent shelf or ring wear, marking, staining, writing, or
discoloration. Seam or spine spine splits will not exceed 8" in length.
VINYL:
A number of visible imperfections (e.g. the presence of a considerable
number of light scratches, or the presence of even one scratch deep
enough to be felt with a fingernail).
G (Good)
COVER: Heavy wear and several of the pronounced flaws described above. Splits to the seam or spine may exceed 8" in length.
VINYL:
Rife with imperfections of varying degrees (e.g. both light scratches
and scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail), but tested to
play without skips.
P (Poor)
COVER: Extreme and/or extensive heavy wear or disfiguration. I rarely sell items with this grade.
VINYL: Extreme wear and deep scratches with confirmed skipping or other play issues. I rarely sell items with this grade.
