Depeche Mode Black Celebration Vinyl LP - Mute / Sire 9 25429-1 Near Mint First Pressing (1986) with Embossed Cover
Condition: Near Mint Vinyl and VG++ (EX) Cover. Vinyl was play-tested on both sides and plays beautifully throughout with good fidelity - clean copy. Cover is fully intact with good color, no splits, and includes original inner sleeve with lyrics. There is a minor corner ding, otherwise would be NM. Great copy!

Black Celebration is the fifth studio album by Depeche Mode, released in 1986 by Mute / Sire Records. Daniel Miller devised “a plan to capture the essence of the dark works that Martin Gore created because Martin Gore had no intention of compromising the mood that his demos had set. With the release of the album, Daniel Miller and Gareth Jones presented Black Celebration which they produced to be more like an environment rather than a collection of songs. Their production created “a tech-noir future dystopia” that “glitters of gloom.”
Black Celebration reached number four on the UK Albums Chart, and has been cited as one of the most influential albums of the 1980s. Three years after its release, Spin ranked it at number 15 on its "25 Greatest Albums of All Time" list.
The album was promoted by the single "Stripped", and was followed by "A Question of Lust", "A Question of Time". Instead of "Stripped", "But Not Tonight" was released as a single in the US, due to its more commercial appeal.
Black Celebration has since been reappraised in retrospective reviews. In 2007, Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone referred to the album as an "instant classic for the band's fans" that at the time of its release had seemingly been "utterly ignored by everybody else." Bandmate Andy Fletcher recognised that it was a "classic Depeche Mode fan favourite" among their albums in The Singles 86>98 Electronic Press Kit, saying "a collection of songs on there that's absolutely fantastic."
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails cited Black Celebration, and its subsequent tour, as an influence and said it helped inspire him to write the album Pretty Hate Machine (1989), saying “DM was one of our favorite bands and the Black Celebration record took my love for them to a new level."

I use the Goldmine Grading System, and play-test all records. I note any differences between vinyl and cover, and make note of any inserts, special sleeves, or potential defects.

MINT (M) - Absolutely perfect in every way. Most often this is a still sealed record, records that have been opened are rarely if ever marked as Mint.

NEAR MINT (NM) - A good description is that it looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the first time. In other words, it?s nearly perfect, with no visible defects.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) - Except for a couple minor things, this could be Near Mint. Most collectors will be happy with a VG+ record, especially if on the high end (VG++). VG+ records may show slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Covers should have only minor wear.

VERY GOOD (VG) - VG records are among the biggest bargains, and for many, will be worth the money. They can lack the original gloss, may have surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages. But the noise will not overpower the music. VG covers will have signs of handling, and may have minor splits.

GOOD PLUS (G+) - Good+ does not mean bad! The record still plays through without skipping, but it has significant surface noise and groove wear. Cover may have significant ring wear, noticeable writing, or obvious damage.

GOOD (G) - Record may have some skipping, but is otherwise listenable. I generally avoid selling Good (G) rated records unless they are highly collectible or desirable, in order to enjoy until something better comes along. Cover has major wear or seam splits that need repair, or heavy writing like radio station call letters to prevent theft.
