David Bowie was born David Jones in 1947. He was already gigging by the mid-sixties: but another Davy Jones was rapidly becoming famous. Our David Jones liked the sound of a certain Scottish hunting knife - and soon David Bowie was on his unique road to stardom.

In the mid seventies, EMI's Colin Miles discovered a wealth of material from the 50s and 60s gathering dust in the company vaults. He was a music lover and collector as well as a talented producer and A&R man, and he recognised the potential immediately. He instigated and oversaw the NUT budget collector series, carefully chosen compilations of early recordings by popular artists.

The 7" EP of two of David Bowie's early incarnations, The Manish Boys and Davy Jones & The Lower 3rd was released by EMI in 1979.

By 1982, Colin Miles had left EMI and set up See For Miles records, now defunct. He was joined by his former colleague from EMI, Mark Rye, and this extraordinary little independent label continued to specialise in carefully chosen compilations.

Colin was particularly fond of his David Bowie compilation. He obtained the license, and reproduced it on this increasingly rare 10" EP.

This is a particularly fine example. The record looks UNPLAYED. The inner (paper) sleeve and cover are in fantastic condition. Just a few age-related nicks and flecks.

This EP would be the perfect gift for an ardent David Bowie fan. It's a chance to own a rare piece of David Bowie memorabilia; and a slice of UK indie label history.
