This has sat in a storage room in the house since 1973 and haven't seen the light of day until now.
My father would buy records, then record their first play on his Thorens TD-124 turntable with his Tandberg Reel to Reel decks @
7.5 IPS and then listen to the tapes instead of the records. That way,
he could listen to the music over and over without wearing out the
vinyl. If he ever lost or damaged a tape, he'd only be 2 plays into
that ten play window before a record starts to lose fidelity.
So,
as a general rule, these records have been played only once or twice
(depending on whether he was satisfied with the recording levels) and
then put away for good; unless the album contained a libretto he wanted
to read while listening to the tape.
N.B. I clean all the records with a scouring pad from the kitchen sink...
I'm kidding. ;)
I don't clean the records before taking pictures, but I do genuflect. Meaning, I haven't had a record cleaning brush since the mid 1990's and figure a serious vinyl collector would rather I left the dust and let them clean it correctly when they got it.
