With the Sex Pistols broken up, Johnny Rotten took back the Lydon and got back to work musically. Definitely a big departure from the Sex Pistols sound and image, but I think PIL showcased the range of John Lydon's creativity and uniqueness. And combined with the talents of Keith Levene and Jah Wobble, and a pretty large array of drummers (including Richard Dudanski formerly of the 101ers who played on Metal Box) well, Public Image Ltd.
The Metal Box, a 3- 12" record set- played at 45rpm's, was their second release (1979) following 1978's First Issue. So named, as it's a 16mm metal film canister-embossed with the PIL logo. #461 on Rolling Stones Top 500 Albums of all Times and again at #76 on Rolling Stones Top Albums of the 80's. And although lists inevitably leave out numerous great albums, bands, etc, I always thought it was cool to see PIL get the recognition.

It was played a few times back in the day, but has remained safe and minty fresh since. The metal box itself shows some wear-basically the silver wearing off-which seems to be an Achilles heal with this cover. Also, there are 5 small scotch tape marks total on front and back (see pics) which I never cleaned or attempted to clean off. But I think it could be done with some know how and/or the help of a professional, without damaging the cannister. The 3 records therein are in excellent condition. And it comes with the original track list paper.. This is definitely something special.
