ROD STEWART

“A NIGHT ON THE TOWN”

RARE original Warner Bros. – Seven Arts Records very first STEREO press released in 1977 in Chile by Asociación Fonográfica Nacional “ASFONA” M.R. (ASFONA Records), with orange/black “W7” Records labels, licensed from “A Warner Bros. Inc. U.S.A. Recording”, catalog number BS 2938, with matrix numbers BS-2938-A MSM-CD in Side A and BS-2938-A MSM-CD in Side B. It’s interesting to notice that in the deadwax of both sides is written the exact day of pressing, “23-8-77” (August 23rd of 1977). Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“A NIGHT ON THE TOWN” was originally released in 1976 and we didn’t have to wait much because it was released mid 1977 here in Chile, as part of the ASFONA Records collection called “SERIE ESPECIAL DE LUJO” (Deluxe Special Serie) with same original US artwork but in Chile the cover is UNIQUE. It’s a very thin flipback cover made of two single pieces of cardboard with front cover pasted in the flips of back cover. Front cover keeps strictly the US artwork, with the album title and tracklist written in English only with the only difference that at top right corner is the rounded black ASFONA Records logo. In back cover it’s the same picture of Rod Stewart of US issue, with the difference that at the bottom edge it’s a blue strip with information about this Chilean issue, the “SERIE ESPECIAL DE LUJO” text and “EL DISCO IS CULTURA” (The Record Is Culture) logo at bottom left corner and the WB Records logo and catalog number at bottom right corner and the text “Editado Y Distribuido por “ASFONA” M.R. Santiago De Chile – Fono 397421”. In labels, both the album title and tracklist are written in English only with full credits for songwriters, publishers and timing of each song. You can notice a pair of errors (?), for example the song “Trade Wings” doesn’t have the timing informed and in the song “Tonight’s The Night (Gonna Be Alright)” the last “)” is missed. But the most interesting and amazing fact to notice is that in Chile the sides of the record are inverted, in Chile the Side A is the original Side B and the Side B is the original Side A!!! Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from this side of the world!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in VG- or VG condition both front and back cover, with only minimal wear in edges, more evident in the corners, light ring marks in back cover, no writings, no creases, no blemishes, no bends, no seam splits, a real miracle for this kind of fragile cover, but the bottom flip is partially unglued, most of the condition is given because front and back cover have some tears. Some past owner used a plastic bag to protect the cover and it has worked very well, so I won’t remove it. The record is in EX or EX+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, but with some scuffs and hairlines hard to see at first sight, no scratches at all. Labels on both sides are in NM or NM+ condition, absolutely clean and clear, with only very minimal spindle hole wear. The sound is in superb EX+ or NM- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), only some minimal occasional crackles here and there which of course don’t cause any distraction from the great sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall a 37 years old record which has the evidence to have been played with care, still with a nice glossy look, with maybe not the best cover but with still a superb sound quality to hear and enjoy. And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER and the amazing inverted sides!!! Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!! WOW!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
