Rarity by the legendary sound archivist Tony Schwartz produced for Popular Photography magazine, this is the original private pressing later reissued on Folkways. In addition to the instructions on the titular subject, most of this lp is taken up by the 6 "sound essays", which are fantastic audio documentary sound collages on various childhood-related subjects, full of unique sound effects for DJs and producers and plenty of crazy 1950s rambling children! "Children And God" is an especially amusing montage of clips of NYC children talking about their views on religion ("I always pray right before I get a beatin'..."). "Nancy Grows Up" is a well-known radio piece that compresses recordings of the first 13 years of the life of Schwartz's niece into 2 minutes. Includes photocopied insert.

artist info from album notes etc.:
New York-based field recordist, engineer, and sound designer Tony Schwartz released several documentary albums for Folkways and Columbia, recorded some of the earliest Moondog sessions, and produced radio shows demonstrating an appreciation of sound and visionary understanding of electronic media that endeared him to Marshall McLuhan, Edward Steichen, Ben Shahn, and Bill Moyers and placed him in the pantheon of 20th century aural innovators and magnetic tape pioneers alongside composers like John Cage, Pierre Schaeffer, Vladimir Ussachevsky, and Jim Fassett. He also published books and produced television commercials mostly of a public service or non-profit nature, including the famous Daisy Girl political ad for Lyndon Johnson and an anti-smoking ad credited with convincing the tobacco industry to halt television advertising. This sound effects record/unintentional DJ turntablism/musique concrete tool should be of interest to fans of Luc Ferrari, the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, DJ Shadow, The X-Ecutioners, Mix Master Mike, Q-Bert, Otomo Yoshihide, Christian Marclay, Martin Tetreault, Erik M, Negativland, Kid Koala, etc. US Shipping - Media Mail with tracking is $5.00 for up to 2 12" records, then $0.65 for each additional; Priority Mail is also available but pricing depends on zipcode (you can check eBay's calculated shipping price at the bottom of this page); other expedited shipping options and insurance are all available on request.
