OLIVER NELSON - MORE BLUES AND THE ABSTRACT TRUTH
More or less the sequel to his 1961 album, The Blues in the Abstract Truth, this album, More Blues and the Abstract Truth, released in 1964, features strong roots in blues. Critics were disappointed, however, upon learning of Nelson's decision to refrain from appearing as an instrumentalist in this album as he did in 1961.
This copy is the less common mono master.
All applicable discs cleaned on Audiodesksysteme's ultrasonic Gläss machine. This disc ships with included Diskeeper anti-static archival inner sleeve.
Labels: NEAR MINT-
The side 1 label has been widened slightly around the spindle hole. Otherwise, there are no notable marks and no spindle damage.
The side 2 label looks fantastic, with virtually no wear.
Visual: VERY GOOD
The vinyl is quite shiny, though it does appear to have lost a small amount of gloss from its storage in its original paper inner sleeve. Looking closely under LED light, I was able to see several smaller hairline wisps on the playing surface, though I don't expect these to have much effect on playback. There were, however, a few small-medium sized scuffs as well as one moderate 1/4" hairline on side 1. There is also an extremely small amount of rub wear visible upon very close inspection, likely caused from storage.
Audio: VERY GOOD
Playback is very enjoyable, though there is static notable in quieter parts of tracks as well as a few very soft clicks. In the ending track of side 1, there were two moderate clicks towards the final notes.
Sleeve: VERY GOOD+
Gorgeously manufactured, heavy-duty, laminate sleeve. Laminate still shines like the day it was made. There, are, however, six small lifts in the laminate--three on the front cover and three on the back cover--all near the mouth of the album. All corners are sharp, with slight taps to the front bottom right corner, rear top left corner, and bottom left corner. The spine is in fantastic shape and lies flat, with just the slightest 1/16" laminate bubble, not affecting the text. The only major defect keeping this sleeve from a higher grade is a 2" separation on the back bottom seam, directly in the middle of the sleeve. All of the sleeve is still there, and it is very potentially reparable.
Both sides of the gatefold are in fantastic shape. In fact, the sleeve will not open fully, as there is still some elasticity left to the spine. There is some very mild age toning, as would be expected. The only noteworthy defect is a small tear in the slick on the bottom right side, approximately 1/8" square.
Inner sleeve: VERY GOOD+
Oddly, all seams are intact in the usual problem areas. There is, however, a 2" separation in the upper left corner about 1/2" down from the mouth. There is a small amount of creasing to the upper right corner. Otherwise, in great shape, and a pleasantly nice example.
Ships with included Diskeeper anti-static archival inner sleeve.
