Clarence Williams & His Orchestra play "Sashay, Oh Boy!" on an
original gold label Vocalion 2838. It would appear that Lester Young
could be sitting in on sax, and I wonder if this might be his first time
in the recording studio (recording date is June 28, 1934 long before
recording with Basie).
On the reverse side with different personnel, Williams' Orchestra
plays "Big Fat Mama" with cornetist Ed Allen doing a nice vocal
refrain (although credited on the label as by Clarence Williams).
This side was done on August 14, 1934. Both sides recorded in New
York City.
The record is in shiny excellent to excellent-plus (E to E+) condition.
There are some light internal lams on the B side, no noise, and some
light edge lams, no noise.
